Want an opportunity to compete for a state championship with your favorite golf partners, play with a PGA Golf Professional, and have a chance to win prizes at the State and Local level?
The Kentucky Golf Association is pleased to announce a new statewide event for all golfers! The EagleWatchGolf Kentucky Scramble is a progressive four-person net golf tournament where teams compete in local qualifying events to earn a spot in the State Championship with their PGA Professional.
“I think many golfers still remember the Oldsmobile Scramble and how much fun it was,” states KGA Past President Tom Cooksey, “We just felt we could bring back that concept at a local and state level so golfers of all skill, generations and gender could feel the excitement of a state-wide competition.”
Qualifiers across the Commonwealth
Local qualifiers will be held across the Commonwealth between June 1 and August 30. The winning team from each local qualifier earns a spot in the State Championship, which will be conducted on Monday, September 26 at Greenbrier Golf & Country Club in Lexington.
Choose Your Team!
Each team is made up of four amateurs who have an active Handicap Index at KGA or allied golf association member facility. Teams may be made up of all men or women, or feature a mix of both men and women. Golfers of all ages are allowed to participate. However, golfers under the age of 18 must have an adult sign the participant registration form on their behalf and have an adult accompany them at all times.
On every hole, each team member may hit a tee shot. The team then selects one of the tee shots to play for the next shot. All members of the team then hit from that position. This process is repeated until the ball is holed. Each player’s drive must be used a minimum of three times.
Team Handicap Allowance
The Kentucky Scramble follows the USGA Handicap System. Team members will be placed in the following categories based on their USGA Handicap Index with the lowest index being placed as “Golfer A” and the highest index being placed as “Golfer D.” Each category of golfer is given a percentage of their Handicap Index. The teams combined Handicap Indexes are then multiplied by 80% and rounded to the nearest tenth for the teams Course Handicap:
- Golfer A: 10%
- Golfer B: 20%
- Golfer C: 30%
- Golfer D: 40%
The maximum allowable Handicap Index will be capped at 20.0. If a competitor has an active Handicap Index above 20.0 (i.e. 26.3), their Handicap Index will be adjusted to a 20.0 before the other adjustment.
What Are We Competing For?
Teams that advance on from the Local Qualifier will be joined by that qualifying site’s PGA Professional for the State Championship at Greenbrier Golf and Country Club. At the State Championship, the minimum First Prize is $3,750 per the five-person team!
