We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Harreld Kirkpatrick. Mr. Kirkpatrick, 98, was an active member of Quail Ridge Country Club for nearly 40 years. He was a decorated World War II Veteran and five time Purple Heart recipient who served in Normandy. Mr. Kirkpatrick was an amateur golfer who was inducted into the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame in 1999.
As an amateur, he won more than 100 tournaments, including the 1954 Kentucky State Amateur. He competed in the 1955 British Open, has played practice rounds with such legends as Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson and Babe Zaharias, and was friends with the game’s greatest amateur, Bobby Jones. He won more than 100 tournaments despite not competing for 20 years while he ran a coal company, and in 2007, the Kentucky Golf Association honored him by creating the Harreld Kirkpatrick Trophy for the low senior scorer in the Kentucky State Amateur Championship. He was also inducted into the Senior Golfers of America Hall of Fame.
The family will be planning arrangements for services to be held in early November 2017. Further details will be shared as they become available.
