If this Kentucky PGA Professional’s golf ball could talk, we would want to find out more about the person who makes this game more enjoyable for us! Luckily, Kentucky’s Family of Golf Organizations is so strong; they generate a force to glean information from the golf balls of KPGA Professionals from across the Commonwealth. The information from these golf balls is as different as the markings the Professional made on them!
PGA Professionals are experts in the game and business of golf. This month, we picked out an experienced ball from the shag bag of Josh Snider, PGA Director of Golf and Membership at Oxmoor Country Club to find out a little about where his expertise comes from and a few more fun facts we couldn’t resist asking … after all, a golf ball never lies!
Q: What was the moment where Josh Snider of Oxmoor Country Club became “hooked” on golf?
A: He was always around the game growing up, his Dad & Uncles maintain a single digit handicap, but golf was just summer fun. When he started to caddy at Valhalla through his high school summers & into college is when the hook was set; probably looking for me on hole #2…
Q: Does he have any golf superstitions?
A: Not really sure if it is a superstition, but he will not ever have more than 3 tees in his pocket & at times will prefer that the President of the coin/ball marker “in play” must look down the line of the upcoming putt as we wait our turn.
Q: What’s his favorite club in the bag and why?
A: Having been sideways with all his clubs at one point in time, it would be my best educated guess that he enjoys hitting the longer irons, some of our best memories have been played with the 2-, 3- and 4-irons.
Q: What does Josh do to prepare for an important round of golf?
A: It usually involves being on the lesson tee the week leading up to an important round of golf, but instead of doing what we need to do to better prepare ourselves, he’s teaching his members & students to assist with their game instead.
Q: Who is his dream 4-some?
A: Josh is a Gemini by birth, so of course he would have two dreams…a Golf Professional 4-some & Professional Golfer 4-some. Golf Professional Pairing: Tom Morris, Donald Ross & Harvey Penick; Professional Golfer Pairing: Seve Ballesteros, Ben Crenshaw & Ben Hogan – I would bet my inner core that he would take the Golf Professional pairing if he had to pick just one, PGA!
Q: Josh is at the Halfway House during a round and there is a group on the 10th tee – what does he order?
A: A water & a few downward facing dogs.
Q: What is the best shot he ever hit?
A: Since we have yet to hit the perfect shot on a par 3 tee; it has to be a “cut” 6-iron from 174 yards to a back right hole location on the 17th hole of Celebration Golf Club after a full day of being on the left side of the world. The shot was executed as expected & I found the bottom of the cup for some much needed subtraction on that scorecard.
Q: What is Josh’s favorite part of his job?
A: His favorite part of being a PGA Professional & working every day is that he’s involved with a game. Not only is it just a game, it is the greatest game of them all!
Q: What are your his interests off of the golf course?
A: It would seem to me that there is a lot of other interests going on as I haven’t seen light in months. He for sure likes to be involved with his kid’s activities, loves to play basketball in the church league & has been spending a lot more time with his yoga mat than playing with me.
Q: What are three more “fun facts” we need to know about Josh Snider of Oxmoor Country Club?
A: “I’m Ready…I’m Ready..I’m Ready!” He likes to free flow rhymes in the morning. He will post you up on the basketball court.
A special thanks to Josh Snider and his golf ball for spending time, allowing us to get to know him better! Look for tips from him in your next two editions of Kentucky Golf Insider! We look forward to searching a new KPGA Professional’s shag bag in January to find out more about the experts in the game and business of golf!
