If this Kentucky PGA Professional’s golf ball could talk, we would want to find out more about the person who makes this game more enjoyable for us! Luckily, Kentucky’s Family of Golf Organizations is so strong; they generate a force to glean information from the golf balls of KPGA Professionals from across the Commonwealth. The information from these golf balls is as different as the markings the Professional made on them!
PGA Professionals are experts in the game and business of golf. This month, we picked out an experienced ball from the shag bag of Kevin Childers, General Manager at The Club at Olde Stone to find out a little about where his expertise comes from and a few more fun facts we couldn’t resist asking … after all, a golf ball never lies!
Q: What was the moment where Kevin Childers of The Club at Olde Stone became “hooked” on golf?
A: He loved playing golf with his dad at Avon Golf Course at the Bluegrass Army Depot.
Q: Does he have any golf superstitions?
A: He always plays a #4 ball with a black dot on the right side of the ball.
Q: What’s his favorite club in the bag and why?
A: The 7-iron, he never miss hits me with a 7-iron.
Q: What does Kevin do to prepare for an important round of golf?
A: He makes me listen to outlaw country music, i.e. Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash & Merle Haggard
Q: Who is his dream 4-some?
A: His father, Bobby Jones and Tom Watson are his dream foursome.
Q: Kevin is at the Halfway House during a round and there is a group on the 10th tee – what does he order?
A: He orders beef jerky and a lemonade Vitamin Water.
Q: What is the best shot he ever hit?
A: He had a hole in one with me from 245 yards on hole #3 at Olde Stone.
Q: What is Kevin’s favorite part of his job?
A: He loves being outside helping his members become better players.
Q: What are your his interests off of the golf course?
A: He loves spending time with his wife and three children, hunting and making beer cheese.
Q: What are three more “fun facts” we need to know about Kevin Childers of The Club at Olde Stone?
A: He likes to wear bow ties, is a sucker for key lime pie and collects old Sports Illustrated magazines.
