109th Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur Preview

LEXINGTON, KY (June 6, 2023) – The 2023 Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur is finally here! 156 of Kentucky’s finest look to take a crack at etching their name in the history books of the event that dates back to 1911. The 109th edition of this championship will take place at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, KY, Tuesday through Thursday.

The upscale public golf course was designed by the father-son duo, P.B. and Pete Dye, and opened its doors in 1989. Since that time, Kearney has been no stranger to high-profile events as it was the home of the Bank One Classic on the Champions Tour for eight years. Additionally, Kearney has hosted the Men’s & Women’s US Pub-Links Championships, the Boys Junior PGA Championship, and the Girls Junior PGA Championship.

Competitors can expect championship conditions throughout the week in Lexington. The wide fairways of Kearney start to shrink once your eyes catch the thick and vast rough. Not to mention the large areas of natural heather that can be found all around the property. Kearney Hill takes pride in being one of the few true links-style courses in the state. High winds and weather can show a side of the golf course that could prove to be quite the challenge.

As for the 156 players in the field, they range from 16 (William Hudson, Brett Marcum, Luke Watson) to 66 (Gary Backlund). 47 players are in the field through exemption while the other 109 players advanced through one of the eight qualifiers held across the state from Mid-May through early June.

There are seven past champions of the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur who are in the field. Those players and the year(s) they won this championship are listed below.

  • Jordan Blann (2009,2010)
  • Buddy Bryant (1996, 1998)
  • Tom Campbell (2014)
  • Andy Roberts (2016)
  • Tyler Sharpe (2008)
  • Charlie Cornette (2003)
