Clark's Pump-N-Shop KY Amateur Day Two Recap

Mother Nature made her presence felt during the second day of the 2019 Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur Championship. Two weather delays forced suspensions of play that will prolong the second round into Thursday morning. Players who teed off in the morning wave were able to complete their second round, but those who teed off in the afternoon wave will need to finish their second round at Country Club of Paducah beginning at 7:30 a.m CDT on Thursday morning.

With Wednesday's play concluded, Luke Fuller of Mount Sterling sits alone atop the leaderboard by two strokes. Fuller completed six holes in his second round in which he made birdie on two of those holes, the par-five 11th and par-three 12th. His nearest competitors are Evan Davis of Lexington and Nick Johnston of Louisville. Both Davis and Johnston completed their second rounds on Wednesday and will begin their final round on Thursday afternoon at 141 (-3). Only three other players are under par, being Owensboro's Andy Roberts, Union's Jacob Poore and Nicholasville's Matt McCurry. Roberts and Poore both finished their second rounds and stand at 142 (-2) through 36 holes, while McCurry is through 13 holes on his second round and is also -2.

ROUND TWO NOTES:

  • The first suspension of play took place at 11:35 a.m CDT due to lightning in the Paducah area. Play was resumed at 12:45 p.m CDT once the storm cell had left the area.
  • The second suspension of play took place at 2:25 p.m CDT due to lightning and heavy rain that would soon make impact upon the facility. Play resumed at 6:15 p.m CDT once conditions on the golf course had reached a satisfactory level.
  • Wednesday play came to a halt at 8:15 p.m CDT due to darkness. Round two will resume at 7:30 a.m CDT on Thursday morning.
  • Andy Roberts fired the low round of the day with an impressive 67 (-5). Six birdies and an eagle on the day vaulted him into the thick of the competition going into the final round.
  • For the second consecutive day, the par-three 2nd gave players fits once again and stands as the hardest hole as of the current scores at +1.22. While the par-five 18th remains gettable as the second-easiest hole, the par-five 5th is the easiest hole for round two based off the current scores at +0.03.

IMPORTANT THURSDAY TIMES:

  • The driving range and putting green will be open to players at 6:30 a.m CDT.
  • Players still needing to finish round two will be able to retrieve their scorecards at 7:10 a.m CDT.
  • The resumption of play will begin with two horn blasts at 7:30 a.m CDT.

The top 70 players and ties will advance to the final round on Thursday afternoon. The third round will be a shotgun start beginning once the second round has concluded.
