Preview: 106th Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur

LEXINGTON, KY (September 8, 2020) - Three months later than originally planned, the 106th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur is ready to be held at Lexington Country Club. After the COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponement of this year’s competition, plenty of excitement and anticipation has built for what is destined to be a special week in the legacy of the state’s most historic golf championship.

Three rounds of stroke play will decide this year’s champion. The field’s size has been decreased due to a smaller window of sunlight being available in mid-September as opposed to the traditional mid-June date. Consequently, the cut will be the low 60 players and ties following the second round of play instead of the typical low 70 and ties. With these factors in place along with no caddies and spectators, there will be a different feel to this year’s State Am, but great golf on a great golf course is something the coronavirus could not affect.

Last year’s champion, Nick Johnston, is in the process of becoming a PGA Member and not eligible to compete this year which means someone else will have his name etched under Johnston’s on the beautiful trophy up for grabs. Among the 108-person field, these six past champions of the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur are in the field and will tee off together at the following times on Wednesday:

  • 10:24 a.m. EDT on the 10th - Tom Campbell (2014), Jordan Blann (2009, 2010), Tyler Sharpe (2008)
  • 10:36 a.m. EDT on the 10th - Andy Roberts (2016), Charles Cornette (2003), Buddy Bryant (1996, 1998)
