Preview: 107th Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur
LOUISVILLE, KY (June 14, 2021) – For the 107th time, the oldest trophy in Kentucky golf is back up for grabs. The stage is set for Audubon Country Club to host the latest edition of the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur, which begins on Tuesday, June 15 and will conclude on Thursday, June 17 following 54 holes of stroke play.
This is a historic version of the championship as it marks the twelfth time Audubon will serve as host, the most from any facility. Audubon’s first time hosting the competition was in 1912, the second in tournament history, with J.B. Warner winning the trophy. 1996 was the last time Audubon served as the host venue of this event, where Buddy Bryant prevailed for the first of his two victories in this championship.
Bryant helps make up the group of 156 players who have entered this year’s field. They come from as west as Paducah and as east as Ashland, with ages ranging from 60 years old to 14 years old. All players will play 36 holes at minimum before a cut takes effect after the completion of the second round. From that point, the top 70 players and ties will compete in Thursday’s final round to determine the year’s champion.
Last year’s champion Alex Goff is not in the field this year, meaning there are six past champions in the 2021 field looking to add their names to the trophy once more. They are as follows, with their years of triumph in parenthesis followed by their first round starting time.
- Kenneth Beard (1984) – 1:05 p.m. EDT
- Jordan Blann (2009, 2010) – 9:30 a.m.
- Buddy Bryant (1996, 1998) – 1:35 p.m.
- Tom Campbell (2014) – 10:00 a.m.
- Andy Roberts (2016) – 2:25 p.m.
- Tyler Sharpe (2008) – 1:15 p.m.
Golf House Kentucky will have full coverage of this year’s championship on its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. When the final group reaches the 18th hole of Thursday's final round, a live-stream will be shown on Facebook. Should a playoff be necessary, that will also be live-streamed.
