The Competitors of the 107th Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur

The Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur is back to a full field of 156 players after last year's Championship featued a limited field size due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 156 heading to Audubon Country Club in Louisville this week, the dream to have their name added to Kentucky's most historic golfing trophy is alive and well. All that stands between them are 54 holes of stroke play at one of Louisville's most historic golf courses, and their fellow competitors. All those who will vie for the title (as of Friday, June 11) are as follows.

Kyle Alexander - Alexander finished in second in the Frankfort Country Club qualifier back in May, where a round of 70 (-2) got him his place in the field. Originally from Taylorsville, he is now a member of the Men’s Golf team at Thomas More.

Tim Alexander - A graduate of Ryle High School who now plays college golf for Transylvania University. He finished T19 in the Transylvania Fall Invitational.

Tyler Allred - In his qualifying round at Seneca Golf Course, Allred had one of the most colorful scorecards of any qualifier for this year’s championship. Six birdies, six pars, five bogeys, and a triple bogey summed up to a round of 74 (+2). One thing is for sure: Allred does not play boring golf.

Robert Bader III - A Louisvillian and Saint Xavier graduate. He played college golf at Hanover College where he set their single-season scoring record (74.0) and was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the GCAA in 2014.

Billy Basham - A very popular pick to win this week, Basham recently competed in U.S. Open Final Qualifying at Springfield Country Club in Ohio after advancing through Kentucky’s Local Qualifier at Cherry Blossom Golf Club. Basham plays collegiately for the Eastern Kentucky Colonels and is the son of Iroquois Golf Course’s Head Professional, Greg Basham, PGA.

Alexander Bassel - Bassel was the medalist of the Second Chance qualifier at Long Run Golf Course, where he shot 68 (-4). He plays college golf for the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech.

Kenneth Beard - Past champion from 1984 who won at Bowiling Green Country Club. Given his last name, it's presumed he can grow fantastic facial hair.

Alex Bennett - The fifteen-year old from Georgetown and member of the Kentucky PGA Junior Tour made it through the Frankfort Country Club qualifier with a round of 76 (+4). Bennett will be one of the youngest players in the field.

Joe Benton - Benton just completed his freshman year at Eastern Kentucky and is a member of the Colonels’ golf team. He graduated from Estill County High School in 2020 and qualified through a T3 finish in the Bellefonte qualifier.

Jack Bergstrom - A native of Lexington who now plays college golf for the Belmont Bruins after graduating high school from Sayre. Bergstrom finished in twentieth place last year in this tournament.

Brandon Berry -  Berry finished T24 last year in the State Amateur. He played college golf for the Eastern Kentucky Colonels from 2004-2008.

J.R. Bertram - Bertram has been bouncing back and forth between Kentucky and Colorado recently. This past fall, he finished T2 in the Aurora Amateur at Meadow Hills Golf Course just outside of Denver. To get in the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur, he finished T23 in the Seneca qualifier with a round of 75 (+3).

Jordan Blann - The Bowling Green resident is a two-time champion of this event. He won in consecutive years, getting the job done in 2009 at Keene Trace – Champions Trace and at Gibson Bay Golf Course in 2010. The former Kentucky Wildcat looks to add another title to his name this week.

Davis Boland - As the 2020 Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Amateur Champion, Boland knows a thing or two about winning major championships. The Louisville native looks to add another one this week at Audubon. He is the Head Coach of St. Xavier’s Boys Golf team.

Trey Bowling - Someone who’s very familiar with Audubon, as Bowling won the 2008 Kentucky Open at this very venue. He could join the exclusive group of players to win both the Kentucky Open and Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur, but would be the first player to ever win both championships at the same venue.

William Boyd - A round of 72 (E) in the Seneca qualifier, which was T7 that day, got Boyd into the field. He plays out of Hunting Creek Country Club, site of the 2018 edition of this championship.

Jeff Bradow - Bradow fired a 73 (+1) at Danville Country Club to gain entry into this year’s State Am. Bradow’s home track is Audubon so he already has a step on the rest of the field with course knowledge.

Taylor Brady - The Lebanon Country Club member shot 76 (+4) in the Frankfort Country Club qualifier to qualify for this year’s State Amateur. With a win this week, he would top Tom Brady as the Brady with the most notable sports championship thus far in 2021.

Matt Britt - A stellar round of 67 (-5) at Frankfort Country Club got Britt low medalist honors in that qualifier by three shots. Five birdies and an eagle were on his scorecard that day. He’s an Audubon member with home-course advantage, so Britt could be someone to keep an eye on this week.

Patrick Brooks - A member of the University of Belmont golf team, Brooks posted a bogey-free round of 69 (-3) for co-medalist honors at the Seneca qualifier. The big, easy swinging Saint Xavier graduate will look for more bogey-free rounds in his first showing in the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur.

Simon Brown - Holding a +2.5 handicap index, Brown plays at a variety of different golf courses in the state. His low round this year is a round of 69 that was completed at Lebanon Country Club.

Jeb Brumley - Brumley shot 71 (-1) in the qualifier at Danville Country Club to reach this championship. A graduate of Henry Clay High School who now plays college golf for Transylvnia, Brumley finished T52 in this tournament last year in Lexington.

Ben Bryant - A Louisville native who graduated from Eastern High School who is now playing college golf for the University of Mobile in Alabama. Bryant finished T43 in last year’s Kentucky Open at Triple Crown Country Club.

Buddy Bryant - A two-time past champion, having won in 1996 at Audubon Country Club and in 1998 at Eagle Trace Golf Course. Bryant heads into this year’s rendition at Audubon looking to become the first player to win a State Amateur twice at the same golf course.

Cade Burdette - A member of the Eastern Kentucky Men’s Golf team, Burdette is originally from Mount Vernon and then graduated from Rockcastle County High School. He qualified at Danville Country Club after shooting 72 (E).

Rick Burrice - Burrice has one of the more unique jobs of anyone in the field, as he is the Director of Sales for FOX-WDRB in Louisville.

Andrew Buse - Buse is no stranger to the top of leaderboards. After a first round lead and eventual T5 finish in last year’s Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Amateur, the Louisville native looks to cement his placement as one of the best amateur golfers in Kentucky.

John Marshall Butler - The Trinity High School graduate and standout Auburn sophomore is currently ranked 269th in the WAGR. As the winner of the 2020 Sizzler Amateur and coming off of a 4th place finish in last year’s Kentucky Open, Butler poses as one of the favorites to bring home the championship.

Brandon Cambron - A former college golfer of the Midway Eagles as well as the St. Catharine Wildcats. Cambron is a Louisville native who made it in the field after qualifying at Frankfort Country Club with a round of 73 (+1).

Tom Campbell - The senior with perhaps the best odds of winning this week, as Campbell is a both an Audubon member and past champion of this event. His triumph came in 2014 at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club, the high point in a career full of Campbell proving himself as one of the best amateur golfers in Kentucky. He made the cut last year at Lexington Country Club with a T24 finish and will look to better that this year.

Blake Cartwright - A Winchester native who played college golf at Morehead State. Cartwright averaged 73.68 during his senior season in 2018. He qualified for this year’s State Am at Griffin Gate by posting a round of 74 (+2).

George Chandler - Chandler’s round of 74 (+2) at Griffin Gate was good enough for a spot in this year’s State Am. Chandler’s home course is Madisonville Country Club.

Leif Clarke - Clarke is the owner of Leif Clarke Management, Inc. which is based out of Ashland. He’s had a successful career in the financial world after graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1987 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. He also was a member of the Wildcats’ golf team during his time there.

Jimmy Kev Clements - The Louisvillian plays out of The Standard Club and gained entry into this year’s field with a 75 (+3) at Griffin Gate. Clements competed in the 2019 U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

Cooper Collins - Collins just wrapped up his collegiate career with Morehead State and had the team’s third-best scoring average this season with 74.40. The season prior, he led the team in that statistic with 71.22.

Jacob Cook - Last year’s low-amateur and a runner-up in the Kentucky Open at Triple Crown Country Club. He also posted a top-five finish in last year’s State Amateur at Lexington Country Club. The UK golfer is one of the heavy favorites entering this week’s championship.

Pete Cornett - A round of 73 (+1) at Griffin Gate’s qualifier put Cornett into this year’s field. He was a part of the winning net team in May’s Kentucky Team Championship at Kearney Hill Golf Links when he played alongside Michael Huff.

C.J. Corum - A University of Pikeville signee and Clay County standout, Corum looks to add on to his accolades with a nice performance this week at Audubon. Corum was the 2019 Region 9 Player of the Year.

Rob Crockett - Despite coming off of an injury which prohibited him from participating in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, Crockett should still be able to rack up birdies this week. Crockett notched a top-40 finish in last year’s Kentucky Open, a week that included a hole-in-one on the 16th hole at Triple Crown. As a decorated amateur from Louisville, expect to see Crockett at the top of the leaderboard this week.

Ryan Crowdis - Crowdis got a shoutout in our recap of the KPGA Pro-Am Championship at Big Spring Country Club since he holed out for eagle on the par-four 14th during that tournament. Audubon’s 14th hole is one of the hardest on the golf course, so more hole-out eagle magic on the 14th hole would probably make quite the difference in scores this week.

Chris Cummins - At Frankfort Country Club, Cummins’ home course, he shot 77 (+5) to advance through that qualifier and into the championship.

Jake Damron - One of the more inspirational stories in the field, Damron has Erb’s Palsy. According to a 2015 article from the Daily Independent, doctors stated Damron would not be able to swing a baseball bat (or presumably a golf club) but went on to become a multi-sport all-star. Now, he’s in the field of the State Amateur after making it through the Bellefonte qualifier.

Evan Davis - Someone that would not surprise anybody who follows golf in Kentucky should he win this week. The Belmont golfer out of Lexington was the OVC’s Men’s Golfer of the Year this past season. He has USGA championship experience, was runner-up in the 2019 Kentucky Open, and could be primed for a big win this week.

Shawn DeWeese - A St. Xavier graduate who now plays collegiately for Bellarmine, DeWeese shot 70 (-2) in the qualifier at Seneca Golf Course to make it in the field.

Alex Doss - A member of the Men’s Golf team at Northern Kentucky, Doss had the team’s low scoring average in the shortened 2019-20 season with 73.95. He finished in 54th place last year at Lexington Country Club and T25 two years ago at Country Club of Paducah.

Chris Doub - A Wildwood Country Club member that made it in the field after shooting 74 (+2) in the Seneca qualifier. Doub made par on every hole on the back nine that day, so it can be reasonably assumed that Doub will be one of the steadiest players in the field this week.

Avery Edwards - Shooting 73 (+1) in the Owensboro qualifier put the Paducah resident into the field. Edwards played college golf for the Murray State Racers and in high school at McCracken County.

Brian Edwards - A home game this week for the Audubon Country Club member, who shot 73 (+1) in the qualifier at Seneca Golf Course to gain entry into the field.

Aaron Eldridge - Eldridge played college golf for Keiser University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Eldridge resides in Hebron and is part of the staff at The Golf Exchange. Eldridge placed 44th at Lexington Country Club in last year’s championship.

Greg Engle - This past week, Engle won the Kentucky Senior Team Championship at The University Club at Arlington alongside David Rudder. He was the KGA’s Dale Barnstable Player of the Year in 2020, recognizing the top golfer in the state between the ages of 60 and 69.

Matt Epperson - One of the top mid-ams in the state currently, proven by the fact he won the 2019 Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Am at University Club of Kentucky. More recently, he won the Kentucky Team Championship at Kearney Hill Golf Links with Andy Roberts on May 10.

Blake Evans - Evans got through the qualifier at Frankfort Country Club. He plays college golf for the Eagles of Morehead State and was a two-time Kentucky PGA Junior Tour Player of the Year. He is looking to bounce back in this championship this year after missing the cut at Lexington Country Club last year.

Luke Fuller - The medalist from the qualifier at Griffin Gate Golf Club with a round of 69 (-3). Fuller was a co-leader after the first round of this championship in 2019 when it was held at Country Club of Paducah. He will be a junior at Western Kentucky University this fall.

Ben Fuqua - A former UK golfer who now serves as the Assistant Coach for the Wildcats. He finished T11 at Lexington Country Club last year and was one of only nine players to shoot under-par in that tournament’s final round.

Chad Gahm - A descendant of Dwight Gahm, the founder of Valhalla Golf Club. Chad is a Tax Manager in Louisville at MCM CPAs & Advisors.

Ryan Gillum - Gillum just finished his redshirt senior season at Morehead State and is originally from Grayson. He finished T30 in last year’s edition of the championship at Lexington Country Club and T25 in 2019 at Country Club of Paducah.

He has several USGA Championship experiences and has had some close calls with winning both the State Open and State Amateur. He finished T14 last year at Lexington Country Club and T9 two years ago at Country Club of Paducah.

Allen Hamilton - A powerful member of the Kentucky Wildcats’ Men’s Golf Team, Hamilton winning this week would not come as a surprise to those who closely follow golf in Kentucky. Last month, he competed in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship with teammate Campbell Kremer in Seattle. This college season featured some solid individual results, led by a seventh-place finish in the Schenkel Invitational in Georgia.

Ben Hamilton - Hamilton made four birdies in his qualifier at Owensboro Country Club en route to a round of 74 (+2) which granted him a spot in this year’s championship.

Parker Haynes - The Elizabethtown native plays golf at University of Findlay in Ohio and punched his ticket to the State Am after posting a round of 71 (-1) at the Danville Country Club qualifier.

Kevin Heitz - Finishing in solo fifth at the Second Chance qualifier locked up Heitz’s spot in the field at Audubon. Heitz finished T63 in the 2013 Kentucky Open at The Club at Olde Stone and is a Trinity alumnus.

Jon Henson - Henson recently finished T5 at the 76th Northern Kentucky Amateur Championship. He notched the second-best score at the Griffin Gate qualifier with a round of 71 (-1).

C.J. Jones - A round of 73 (+1) in the Frankfort qualifier got the Frankfort native into the field. Jones is a member of the Ball State Men’s Golf team and won the KHSAA Individual Championship in 2015.

Kyle Jury - Should he win this week, the headline for the press release will be entitled “Jury Rules for Victory at Audubon.” Jury played his college golf for the Eastern Kentucky Colonels and played in high school at Elizabethtown.

Eric King - A steady force in KGA tournaments, King was the winner of the 2018 Kentucky Match Play Championship, finished in T39 in last year’s Kentucky Amateur and also finished T59 in last year’s Kentucky Open.

Ryan King - King is based out of Lexington and plays to a 2.1 handicap. “King of Audubon” will be the title of the press release on Thursday evening should he win this week.

Brooks Korfhage - Being named Brooks K. has shown recently that means you are a very good golfer. While Korfhage has not won four major championships like Brooks Koepka, he is set to compete in the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur for the second consecutive year.

Mark Krebs - A former basketball player for the University of Kentucky and now an executive at Morgan Stanley, Krebs has one of the most interesting backgrounds of any player in the field and is a very fine golfer. He also qualified for last year’s Kentucky Open.

Zach Norris - The University of Kentucky golfer from McKee heads into this tournament as a solid pick to win. Cooper Parks - A nice round of 69 (-3) in the final round of last year’s edition at Lexington Country Club propelled Parks towards an exemption into this year’s field by virtue of a T14 finish. He plays collegiately for the Kentucky Wildcats and is a graduate of Taylor County High School.

Tanner Parks - The Campbellsville Country Club member shot 71 (-1) in the qualifier held at Danville Country Club to advance to this championship. Andrew Strother - One of the last players to make it in from the Danville qualifier, as Strother was on the right side of a three-for-two playoff to make it in the field from that competition. He finished T45 in last year’s Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur and 63rd place in last year’s Kentucky Open

Drew Stultz - Finishing in solo second at the Bellefonte qualifier was Stultz, who will be a sophomore at Transylvania University this fall. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity there.

Andrew Sullivan - The rising Samford junior qualified with a 76 (+4) at the Frankfort Country Club qualifier. He carried a stroke average of 75.63 during his sophomore campaign. The 2019 Saint Xavier graduate has a steady game that suits the layout at Audubon well.

Brad Sutherland - Sutherland is a member of Lexington Country Club and works as the Assistant Vice President of Mortgage Lending with Central Bank & Trust.

Tadd Switzer - The Hopkinsville resident finished T58 in last year’s State Amateur, but had a very respectable T25 finish in 2019 at Country Club of Paducah. He qualified for this year’s edition at Owensboro Country Club after shooting 70 (-2) in that qualifier.

Nicholas Tenuta - Tenuta just finished his senior year with the Louisville Cardinals. Tenuta is originally from Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Tenuta has a hole-in-one at Pebble Beach Golf Links on his resume. He accomplished the feat on its 12th hole during a practice round for the 2018 U.S. Amateur.

Justin Tereshko - This time last year, Tereshko was busy accepting his new job as the Head Coach for both the men and women of Hanover College’s golf teams. He’s a good person to have coach you as Tereshko has been one of Kentucky’s top amateurs for quite some time now. He’s ranked 389th in the WAGR and has been as high as 89th. He posted a top-five finish last year in this championship.

Keith Thompson - A South Park Country Club member who shot 72 (E) in the qualifier at Seneca Golf Course. You can bet that Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny will all be rooting hard for him and the other South Park members in the field.

Andrew Tinsley - Coming out on the right side of a four-for-three playoff in the Second Chance qualifier at Long Run guaranteed Tinsley one of the last spots in the field. He is a member of Big Spring Country Club.

Zach Treilobs - A former member of the Men’s Golf team at Transylvania University. He now serves as a Financial Services Professional with Westport Financial Group in Lexington.

Cameron Travis - The Richmond native gained entry through the Griffin Gate qualifier after firing a round of 71 (-1). Travis played high school golf for Madison Central and is now playing collegiately for the University of the Cumberlands.

Ryan Tucker - In his Twitter bio, Tucker describes himself as a “mediocre golfer”, but as a State Am qualifier, he is actually quite good! A round of 74 (+2) in the Danville Country Club qualifier is what secured him entry into this tournament.

J.C. Vanegas - One of Audubon Country Club’s host site exemptions, Vanegas has had success in club events at Audubon many a time. One of those was a win in the 38th Derby Sweepstakes where his third daughter had been born less than two days prior.

Darrell Vanover - Vanover was on the winning team of May’s KPGA Pro-Am Championship at Big Spring Country Club. He finished in twelfth place at last year’s Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Am, but hoping to bounce back in this championship after a missed cut last September.

Kevin Waldie - A candidate for friendliest player in the field, beneath Waldie’s smile is a stellar golf game. He finished T24 in last year’s Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur and T59 in the Kentucky Open. Waldie is from Lewisport and played his college golf at Brescia University in Owensboro.

Justin Warman - Warman is a decorated member of the Men’s Golf team at Campbellsville University. He has won the Mid-South Conference’s Player of the Year, been honored as an NAIA Second Team All-American honoree plus as an NCCAA First Team All-American. He finished T8 and T11 in last year’s State Open and State Amateur, respectively.

Hayden Warren - Warren is fresh off a round of 67 (-5) in the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier at Oxmoor Country Club which qualified him for that championship to be held later this summer at The Country Club of North Carolina. Warren is a very solid pick to win this championship.

Stephen Warren - The brother of Hayden, Stephen has had a very good start to his 2021 golf season as he finished T3 in Golf House Kentucky Classic #1 at Country Club of Paducah and then won the Open Gross Division of KGA Am Series #1 at University Club of Kentucky. The battle for low Warren should be a close race and an interesting side competition during the championship.

Jakob Wellman - The third-place finisher from the qualifier at Owensboro Country Club shot 69 (-3) there to gain entry into the championship. Wellman finished T17 in the KHSAA Boys Individual Championship last fall at Bowling Green Country Club after qualifying for the tournament individually out of Owensboro Catholic High School.

Brett Widner - A member of the Lincoln Memorial University Men’s Golf team, Widner just finished his sophomore year. He is originally from Cumberland and graduated high school from Danville Community.

Colten Wilson - One of the recipients of the 2020 Gay Brewer, Jr. Grant, Wilson enters this competition having just finished T12 in the Kentucky Boys Junior PGA Championship. Shooting 72 (E) in the qualifier at Danville Country Club confirmed his place in this field.

Ben Wulkopf - Wulkopf was a key part of the Trinity boys winning their first KHSAA State Championship since 2003 last year. The junior-to-be this fall was specifically mentioned by Coach James Chaney prior to that tournament as a “great leader for the team… he’s very mature.” Wulkopf qualified for this championship by shooting 71 (-1) in the qualifier at Seneca.

Tony Wise - A dominant force in the KGA Am Series, Wise tends to be competitive in any event he plays in. The Frankfort native gained entry through his hometown qualifier at Frankfort Country Club with a round of 72 (E).

Aaron Yarmuth - He is as good of a golfer as he is a writer, being the owner and editor of Leo Weekly. He’s also the son of John Yarmuth, a member of the House of Representatives serving Kentucky’s third district. Aaron finished T61 in this championship a year ago.

Hayden Zimmerer - After graduating high school at Christian Academy of Louisville in 2017, Zimmerer has been playing college golf for the Dayton Flyers. He recently competed in U.S. Open Final Qualifying at Springfield Country Club, which is just east of his college stomping grounds in Ohio.
