BARDSTOWN, KY – Susan Stewart’s dominant reign over women’s amateur golf in Kentucky continued today with a victory at the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop KY Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. The win marks the 2023 Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame inductee's fourth consecutive senior amateur victory, dating back to her first win at The Woodford Club in 2021.

After the first round of play, Stewart sat at two-over-par (74) and trailed only Teresa Wallen and Jessica Cornelius who shared the co-lead at 73(+1). This wasn’t exactly the start that she was looking for in her quest to defend her title, but it left her in a manageable situation.

When the second round of play kicked off on Wednesday, Susan Stewart raced out of the gates and recorded two birdies in her first seven holes, but a couple of bogeys on holes #9 and #15 left her tied for the lead with Jessica Cornelius at one-over-par for the tournament. Cornelius, a three-time KY Women’s Senior Am champion herself, fought as hard as she could down the stretch, but Stewart was simply too good. A birdie on hole #17 gave Stewart a one-shot lead, and she put the final nail in the coffin with an eagle on hole #18 to claim a three shot victory at 142(-2) for the tournament. 

Stewart’s second-round 68 was the lowest of the tournament by three strokes, and her fourth KY Women’s Senior Amateur Championship solidifies her as a legend in the state with the likes of Beth Curlin, Anne Combs, and the rest of the greats. Congratulations, Susan, on another amazing victory!
