Previewing the 101st Kentucky Open
UNION, KY (July 27, 2020) – A new century of elite championship golf in the Commonwealth begins tomorrow. The 101st Kentucky Open will start Tuesday morning with 120 players seeking one of the most coveted athletic achievements in the state. Triple Crown Country Club in Union will host the competition for the second time; the first since 2003 when J.B. Holmes prevailed for the first of two consecutive Kentucky Open victories.
Fifty-four holes of stroke play will once again be the format to determine the year’s champion. Because of modifications in place to ensure player safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, all competitors will tee off on the first tee in twelve-minute increments beginning at 7:30 a.m. EDT through 3:18 p.m. EDT for rounds one and two. A cut to the low seventy players and ties will take place after the second round with players then grouped based off score for the final round.
Seven past champions of the Kentucky Open are in this week’s field, including each of the last four winners of the championship. They are as follows and will begin their first round at the stated time:
- J.B. Williams (2019) – 1:30 p.m.
- Trey Shirley (2018) – 1:30 p.m.
- Cooper Musselman (2017) – 1:30 p.m.
- Ashton Van Horne (2016) – 1:42 p.m.
- Andy Roberts (2010) – 9:18 a.m.
- Trey Bowling (2008) – 8:18 a.m.
- Chris Wilson (1996) – 12:30 p.m.
Golf House Kentucky will have full coverage of the event on its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. A live video will be available to view on Facebook when the final group reaches its last hole on Thursday afternoon. Another live video will become available if a playoff is needed to determine a champion. Please remember that due to COVID-19, caddies and spectators are prohibited throughout the week.
