King Paces The Field At The Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Am After Round 1
SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (September 27, 2023) – Fresh off claiming the Kentucky Golf Association Am Series Player of the Year title in the Open Division (gross), Eric King fired a 6-under 66 today at the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Am hosted by Heritage Hill Golf Course. He leads the mid-am division by two.
King got off to a great start with a birdie on the first hole, adding two more on holes 3 and 4. He totaled nine birdies on the day offset by just three bogeys en route to his 66. Sitting two behind with rounds of 68 are Chad Howard, Matt Epperson and Joshua Rhodes. The three totaled 21 birdies between them and one eagle from Howard on hole 10. Rhodes tees off at 12:50 p.m. tomorrow with Eric Fuldner and Jon Ice, followed by King, Howard and Epperson at 1:00 p.m.
The senior division sees another two-shot lead from Richie Hayden after a round 1 72 that included three birdies and three bogeys. PJ McDougal and Paul Douglas, the recently named KGA Am Series Player of the Year in the Senior Division (gross), each fired rounds of 2-over 74. Hayden, McDougal and Douglas begin their final round at 10:40 a.m. tomorrow.
There is a tie for first in the super-senior division after round one, with Christopher Chee and David Combs sitting at the top of the leaderboard after matching rounds of 2-under 70. The two totaled nine birdies, with Chee adding four in a row on holes 9-12. They tee off at 10 a.m. for round two alongside Jim Caudill, who sits two back after an opening round 70.
