Previewing the 26th Clark's Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Am

PADUCAH, KY (August 23, 2020) – The latest premier KGA Championship heads west for Paxton Park Golf Course as the 26th Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Mid-Amateur tees off on Monday morning. There are 40 players in action for the latest State Championship in Kentucky golf. It shall be a historic week as this is the first occasion the Mid-Am comes to Paducah, which has been the location of many memorable KGA Championships in the past.

Matt Epperson will attempt to defend his title this week after a dominant victory a year ago at University Club of Kentucky. Epperson shot rounds of 67-66 in Lexington to win the event for the first time by four strokes over three-time Mid-Am champion Andy Roberts. Both players will be in the last two groups of Monday’s tee times, with Roberts teeing off at 11:24 a.m. CDT while Epperson will be in the following group at 11:36. The two help highlight a quality field that will gather at Paxton Park with these other notables also in the field:

  • Josh Rhodes (10:12) – Rhodes won this competition in 2011 at Owensboro Country Club and has been playing at a high level throughout the summer. Most notably, he was the runner-up in the Kentucky Match Play Championship at Nevel Meade Golf Club last month. It’s a home game for Rhodes this week, who resides in Paducah and plays much of his golf at Paxton Park.
  • David Jasper (10:24) – This trophy did not leave Jasper’s possession for three straight years, as he rattled off wins in 2013, 2014 and 2015 at Keene Trace (Champions Trace), Audubon Country Club and Lexington Country Club, respectively.
  • Rob Crockett (11:00) – Crockett had a quality month of golf in July which included making a hole-in-one in the first round of the Kentucky Open at Triple Crown Country Club to go along with a semifinal appearance in the Kentucky Match Play Championship.
  • Eric King (11:00) – August has been kind to King thus far in the KGA Am Series. King shot 68 (-4) at Polo Fields Golf & Country Club to take low scores honor that day. The week prior in the Am Series event at Gibson Bay Golf Course, King shot 70 (-2) which finished runner-up to…
  • Aaron Yarmuth (11:12) – It was an impressive 67 (-5) at Gibson Bay which gave Yarmuth the low round on that occasion. He reached the quarterfinals in the Kentucky Match Play Championship as well last month.

Golf House Kentucky will have full coverage of the event on its FacebookInstagram and Twitter pages. A live video will be available to view on Facebook when the final group reaches its last hole on Tuesday afternoon. Another live video will become available if a playoff is needed to determine a champion. Please remember that due to COVID-19, caddies and spectators are prohibited throughout the competition.
