Preview: 68th Kentucky PGA Professional Championship

The 68th Kentucky PGA Professional Championship is set to visit Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green on August 19-20. This 36-hole stroke play competition will reward a PGA Professional from the Kentucky Section with one of the most prestigious titles in Kentucky golf and one of the largest first-place checks available in the Section’s season. Additionally, the top-three players at the conclusion of the tournament will advance to the 2020 PGA Professional Championship which will be contested on April 27-30, 2020 at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. The PGA Professional Championship will bring together more than three-hundred PGA Professionals from across the country who will have the opportunity to earn one of twenty spots into the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California.

To get to San Francisco, 41 Kentucky PGA Professionals will have to complete the first step of navigating one of Bowling Green’s best golf courses and beat out the strongest field assembled this season in Kentucky PGA Section competition. Andrew Stephens of Stephens Golf Academy will look to defend his title which he won last year at Kearney Hill Golf Links. Stephens is one of four previous champions in the field, joined by the following former winners:

  • Blake Watts of Wildwood Country Club (2010, 2016, 2017)
  • Keith Ohr of Lake Forest Country Club (2013, 2015)
  • John Bachman of Lake Forest Country Club (2012, 2014)
  • Ralph Landrum of World of Golf (1986, 1987)

Other notable players competing in the 2019 Kentucky PGA Professional Championship include the following:

  • John Mullendore – The Host Professional of this event seeks a second consecutive trip to the PGA Professional Championship along with his first victory in this event. Being the Head Golf Professional at Indian Hills, Mullendore will be among the popular picks to win this event.
  • Brent Paladino – Like Mullendore, the Executive Director of Golf House Kentucky seeks a second straight trip to the PGA Professional Championship and his first victory in this event after finishing 4th in his debut appearance last year.
  • Grover Justice – The current leader of the Omega Larry Gilbert Player of the Year race has won five times this season and seeks a championship that has alluded Justice. The runner-up in the 2017 edition of this event looks to do one spot better this year and continue his march towards another Player of the Year title.
