Haeri Lee Jumps Out to Early Lead at 28th Kentucky Women's Open
LEXINGTON, KY - With a star-studded field in contention at Kearney Hills Golf Links, Drake University graduate Haeri Lee sits atop the leaderboard after the first round at the 28th Kentucky Women's Open.
Lee, who graduated from Drake University in 2022, leads the field after shooting a three-under 69 in the first round of the competition. She made five birdies on the day, including two on par-3's and one on the eighteenth hole, a 505-yard par-5. Lee has found quite a bit of recent success, winning the Illinois Women's State Amateur in June of this year with a three-round score of 218 (+2). In her time at Drake University, she recorded multiple wins and finished in the top-20 of nearly every tournament in which she competed.
Just one stroke off the lead, former Kentucky Women's Open champion Taryn (Durham) Walker is hot on the chase. She shot a bogey-free 34 (-2) on the front nine, but quickly dropped back to even-par after bogeys on holes #12 and #14. Walker's experience prevailed, though, as she collected herself and birdied two of her final three holes to finish her round with a 70 (-2).
Emma Lindemoen, a rising senior at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, is not far behind after shooting a 71 (-1). Lindemoen, the back-to-back Region Six champion, started off the day hot with three birdies in her first five holes. A few mishaps on dropped her back to one-over-par by the time she finished up the front nine, but a bogey-free 34 (-2) on the back nine kept her in close proximity to the leaders.
