What type of tournaments does the KGA conduct?
Each season the KGA conducts sixteen (16) statewide championships and tournaments and manages eight (8) qualifying tournaments for USGA National Championships. While some events are designed for the highly skilled player, many are open and provide flights for the mid to higher handicapper.
Why do I need a World Handicap System Index?
The WHS handicapping system was developed to allow golfers of varying abilities to play together on equal footing, and having a Handicap Index brands you as a true golfer, not just someone who plays golf. You can track your improvement and compete in tournaments or other casual outings, many of which ask for a Handicap Index when you register.
Do I need to join a private club to be a member?
No. You can go into the golf shop of virtually any public course within the state of Kentucky and tell them you'd like to get a Handicap Index and become a KGA member. They will help you register for the KGA member club that is affiliated with that golf course. You can also join the KGA eClub online.
Besides being able to play in tournaments, what else do I get for my KGA membership?
Membership has its privileges and through the KGA’s email service, members may receive opportunities from KGA Rewards Partners. We are currently at work to create partnership relationships that may create benefits for members. We will be informing you by email as those opportunities become available.
What else does my membership dollars support?
As a non-profit organization, the KGA directs a portion of membership dues to support the variety of "Good for the Game" initiatives, such as Youth on Course, as well as the Kentucky Golf Foundation.
