Announcing the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame's 2019 Class

LOUISVILLE, KY (August 23, 2019) - The Kentucky Golf Foundation is excited to announce the 2019 inductees for the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame. Marsha Bordas, Moe Demling and Jim Volpenhein will be honored in November to join the illustrious group of Kentuckians who have recorded significant achievements in the game of golf.

Lexington’s Marsha Bordas was the runner-up in 1992 Kentucky Women’s Amateur, part of a stretch in which Bordas played forty-eight consecutive editions of the tournament. Bordas is a former champion of the Kentucky Women’s Senior Amateur and is currently the Executive Secretary at the Women’s Kentucky State Golf Association.

“I am honored to be chosen to join the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame,” Bordas said. “It was really a surprise and something I was not expecting at all. I am just extremely proud and honored to be joining this group.”

Moe Demling of Louisville won the 1971 Kentucky Open along with the Kentucky PGA Professional Championship that same year. Demling also won the Cincinnati Open on two occasions plus the Kentucky PGA Senior Professional Championship. A participant in nineteen USGA events, Demling currently spends his time as the Golf Professional at Long Run Golf Course in Louisville.

“I really was shocked but honored because I know so many people already in the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame,” Demling stated. “My brother Buddy was inducted in 2006 but passed away about a year ago, so it will be an emotional day when I am inducted.”

Jim Volpenhein of Fort Thomas competed in the 2013 Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Volpenhein played in sixteen USGA events which was composed of eight US Amateurs, five US Mid-Amateurs and three US Senior Amateurs. He holds the record for most wins in the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Amateur Championship with seven and was first-team all SEC at the University of Kentucky in 1981.

“2012 inductee Ralph Landrum delivered the news to me and I was just surprised,” Volpenhein said. “It was humbling and an honor to be selected as a member of the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame.”

The KGF, along with the Kentucky Golf Association and Kentucky PGA Section, congratulate each of the three recipients on this prestigious honor. Each organization looks forward to celebrating the class of 2019 this fall and welcoming them to the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame.
