2024 KGA Am Series Comes To An End At Hunting Creek

PROSPECT, KY – After six events throughout the summer, seventy-two of the state’s best amateur golfers gathered at Hunting Creek Country Club for the 2024 Kentucky Golf Association Amateur Series Championship earlier last week. While the weather was bleak at times, the action on the course was quite the opposite as the field chased the KGA Am Series Player of the Year title.

Andrew Buse held the lead in the Open Division POY rankings (56 points) coming into Monday’s Series Championship. He was followed closely by Charles Brown (49 points) and his son Cameron Buse (45 points). With Andrew Buse not in the field for the event, both Brown and the younger Buse had an opportunity to overtake the lead.

Cameron Buse started his day off by clawing from a triple-bogey on the fifth hole to save a 37(+1) on the front-nine. By the time Buse made the turn, though, conditions became increasingly difficult as rain began to fall and the wind picked up. Despite a birdie on the par-four tenth hole, Buse finished the round at 79(+7) to finish T8 for the event and earn him eight POY points.

Charles Brown had a quite different round, starting off at 41(+5) through the first nine holes of play. Despite the weather, he was able to put together a respectable 80(+8) which was good for tenth place. Unfortunately, Brown’s finish earned him 6 POY points and leaving him just one point shy of matching Andrew Buse atop the Am Series Player of the Year rankings.
