LOUISVILLE, KY (November 17, 2020) – The Kentucky Golf Association is proud to announce Eric King, Mike Newton, Jeff Egger, Scott Hansel, Tom Baggett, and Dan Albers as the various champions of the 2020 KGA Amateur Series. This season’s Am Series competitions were impacted slightly because of the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in the first two events at Summit Hills Country Club and Indian Hills Country Club not offering points due to severely reduced field sizes. In the final four competitions, however, these six players were able to play exemplary golf on their way to these honors.

Eric King sweeps each of the Open Division’s titles, claiming both the gross and net prizes for players aged 49 or younger. King recorded rounds of 70 (-2), 68 (-4), 69 (-3), and 73 (+1) in the four qualifying tournaments which easily secured him the double-dip in the Open Division. The scores of 68 and 69 came at Polo Fields Golf & Country Club and The Standard Club, respectively, which led to victory in each of those appearances. He also won in a playoff at the Am Series Championship at Audubon Country Club by virtue of a 73 there. Thanks to the quality play leading to this title along with other strong appearances throughout the KGA season, King will be back at Audubon next June for the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Kentucky Amateur.

Two victories for Mike Newton earned him the Senior Division’s gross prize. A victory at Gibson Bay Golf Course following a round of 71 (-1) and another victory at Audubon via a score of 74 (+2) launched Newton to the top of the rankings. A pair of top-five finishes in his other appearances at Polo Fields and Standard Club solidified the Bowling Green resident with this honor.

Taking the net crown for the Senior Division is Jeff Egger. He narrowly edged out Newton for this title, which was solidified most by Egger’s co-victory at Polo Fields in August. Egger also posted finishes of 2^nd, 6^th and T7 throughout the Am Series campaign to solidify his resume as the top net player in the Senior Division.

The gross title in the Masters Division belongs to Scott Hansel this year after impressive finishes of 2^nd, 1^st and 4^th. The victory came at Gibson Bay where Hansel shot 70 (-2), his best round of the season. A very solid year for the Florence resident and the season-long title comes well-earned for him.

Tom Baggett takes net honors for the season in the Masters Division after a big push in the last two events of the season. He finished T14 and T12 in the first two points events, but by finishing 2^nd at Standard Club and T3 in the Am Series Championship, he was able to leapfrog his counterparts and finish atop the standings for the top prize available.

Dan Albers wasn’t quite able to snag a tournament victory in the gross side of things from the Legends Division, but his finishes of 7^th, T5 and 2^nd did guarantee him the most consistent season and thus the gross honors for competitors aged 70 and older. Additionally, Albers takes net honors for what was a very productive Am Series season. He earned a co-victory in the net competition at The Standard Club and had top-three finishes at Polo Fields and the Am Series Championship. He joins King as the only players to lock down both awards of their respective divisions this year.

The Kentucky Golf Association congratulates each of the six gentlemen on these honors and thanks them, along with all Am Series competitors throughout the season, for participating in these events. The 2021 KGA Am Series tournaments will be announced in December alongside the other KGA Championships for the 2021 season.
