Taylor Edlin Dominates in March to Women's Amateur Stroke Play Title

Edlin cruises to victory at University Club of Kentucky.

LEXINGTON, KY (August 12, 2022) – The third edition of the Kentucky Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship will go down as a dominant showing from Taylor Edlin, who won the competition by four strokes at University Club of Kentucky (Big Blue).

The rising senior at Middle Tennessee State entered the final round leading by that number, and the margin never got smaller than four. In fact, Edlin led by as many as six shots at one stage after playing the front nine in 35 (-1). Only Ryan Bender, her former teammate at Sacred Heart, was able to stay within range of Edlin as the leaderboard finished with the former Valkyrie teammates at first and second on the leaderboard.

For Edlin, this win represents another feather in her cap in Kentucky after winning the 2017 Kentucky Girls Junior PGA Championship and being a member of two KHSAA State Championship winning teams during her high school career. It also sends her into the forthcoming college season with a great deal of momentum, after also notching her top collegiate season in 2021-22.

Net scores were also counted in this event and Nina McMurtrey of Glasgow had a stellar couple of days on that end, winning that competition by seven shots. McMurtrey posted under-par net scores in both rounds to post 139 (-5).

On the senior side, Cynthia Powell was victorious in the gross category with a three-shot margin of victory. This is Powell’s second time winning that prize having also earned it in the inaugural edition of the event in 2020 at Griffin Gate Golf Club. Meanwhile, Melynda Riley dominated the net competition and won by eight strokes after totaling 145 (+1) for the two days.

NOTES & STATS
