Kevin Childers, PGA and Nathan Hincks Team Up for Second Victory of 2022 at Callaway Pro-Assistant
Childers and Hincks win for the second time in 2022.
LOUISVILLE, KY (May 23, 2022) – For the second time this season, Kevin Childers, PGA and Nathan Hincks came out victorious in a KPGA partner event. On Monday they did so at Audubon Country Club in the Callaway Pro-Assistant which followed up their win in April at Woodhaven Country Club during the Pro-Pro Shamble presented by Levelwear and supported by HMG Accessory Solutions and Hole-in-One U.S.A.
The conditions for both tournaments were similar with cloudy skies, lower than usual temperatures and wind greeting each of the competing teams, but clearly something about those conditions work for the duo from The Club at Olde Stone. They shot 68 (-4) in the four-ball competition which was matched by Blake Watts, PGA and Brandon Sanner, PGA plus David Huffman, PGA and Matt Bloom. Childers/Hincks won the scorecard playoff, however, by virtue of playing holes 10-18 in 33 (-3). Throughout the round, they were able to take birdies on six holes, including one from Hincks on the par-four 8th which played particularly key with it being the third-hardest hole of the competition.
A Pro-Pro competition took place simultaneously which was won by Greg Basham, PGA and Bruce Oldendick, PGA. Together, they shot 65 (-7) which gave them a one-shot victory over Vince Prather, PGA and Jeremy Martin. Oldendick shot 67 (-5) which was the low round from any individual competitor on Monday. He made four birdies and an eagle with his only bogey coming on the hardest hole of the course. That performance coupled with an extra birdie sprinkled in from Basham gave those two the edge.
NOTES & STATS
- Oldendick won the low senior professional title with his play while David Huffman, PGA and Jeremy Martin share low pro honors among those aged 49 or younger. They each shot 70 (-2). For Martin, it’s his second consecutive tournament getting a share of this honor having done so at the Pro-Am Championship supported by Sun Mountain last week at Big Spring Country Club.
- Oldendick was also part of the winning team in the blind draw competition which was optional for players to enter. He was drawn with Josh Gregorich, PGA and they put together a score of 66 (-6) which won that contest by one shot.
- Ryan Sanders, PGA won a closest-to-the-hole competition on the par-three 17th which won him a travel bag from OGIO. He hit his tee shot to six feet. Andrew Lardner, PGA also picked up an OGIO travel bag on that hole with one placed to ten feet, which was the closest tee shot among Team Callaway participants.
- The par-four 14th was the hardest hole of the day. It and the par-three 3rd (which was the second-most difficult) were the only holes to not yield a birdie. The 8th had a stroke-to-par average of +0.62.
- The par-five 12th was the easiest hole at -0.16. Oldendick’s eagle here plus 26 birdies helped it play as one of just two holes to average a score under par, with the par-five 15th being the only other hole to do that.
- The eagle from Oldendick was one of two big birds made during the day. Dan Utley, PGA made the other one on the par-five 15th.
- Audubon’s back nine was moderately easier than its front side on Monday. Holes 10-18 averaged a score of 39.44 compared to 39.90 on the outward nine. That led to the course average being 79.34.
