Iceman Wins Defends Kentucky PGA Assistant Professional Championship Title

BUCKNER, KY - Daniel Iceman’s dominant run in the Kentucky PGA Section continued today as he successfully defended his title at the Kentucky PGA Assistant Professional Championship for the third year in a row. The victory comes just a week after Iceman’s dramatic win at the 73rd KPGA Professional Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.

Oldham County Country Club provided the perfect setting for a 36-hole day as assistant professionals from across the state teed it up for the 17th annual championship. The field got off to a hot start, with seven players shooting under-par in their first 18 holes. The charge was led by Tyler Oldham of Wildwood Country Club who shot -5 on the front-nine and finished the first round with a bogey-free 64(-7). Oldham was followed by Iceman, who also went bogey-free, at 67(-4).

The second round of play quickly became a two-horse race as Oldham and Iceman both birdied the first hole. Oldham was the first to falter with a bogey on the hole #2, but he recovered well with back-to-back birdies on holes #3 and #4. Oldham matched Iceman’s birdie on hole #6 to maintain a four-stroke lead. Iceman was finally able to make up ground with back-to-back birdies of his own on holes #8 and #9. Back-to-back bogeys from Oldham on holes #9 and #10 left the pair tied for the lead with 8 holes to play.

Matching birdies on hole #13 took Iceman and Oldham both to -9 for the tournament with just five holes to play. Things remained that way until a two-shot swing on hole #15 where Iceman made birdie and Oldham made bogey. The gap proved too large to conquer with just 3 holes remaining, and Iceman cruised to victory at -10(132) for the tournament. Oldham finished at -6(136) followed by Justin Warman at -5(137) to round out the top three.

Iceman and Oldham both qualified for the national 2024 PGA Assistant Professional Championship, which will be held in Port St. Lucie, Florida, in mid-November. Jacob Schakat, Aaron Eldridge, and Nick Heimann each secured alternate spots.

The KPGA would like to thank Jacob Blair, Kyle Sheffer, PGA, and the entire team at Oldham County Country Club for their generous hospitality this week. The KPGA would also like to thank National Car Rental for sponsoring the event.
