Iceman Wins ROLEX Assistant Player of the Year Title

Shelbyville's Iceman wins ROLEX Assistant Player of the Year for third time.

LOUISVILLE, KY (November 22, 2022) – Daniel Iceman III, PGA Assistant Golf Professional at Weissinger Hills Golf Course is the Kentucky PGA’s ROLEX Assistant Player of the Year. This is the third instance where Iceman has earned this achievement after previously doing so in 2016 and 2018.

Iceman secured the honor last week in the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He and Jeremy Martin from Griffin Gate Golf Club represented the Section at the nationwide competition, which was the final event offering points towards the Player of the Year race.

The now three-time recipient of this award earned his spot in Florida thanks to his highlight of the 2022 season, a victory in the National Car Rental Kentucky Assistant PGA Professional Championship. That triumph at Wildwood Country Club saw Iceman erase a four-shot deficit with five holes remaining in the final round to top Martin by one stroke. It was his fourth career victory in that event, and he followed it up with his third consecutive title at the Kentucky PGA Assistants Match Play Championship in late September.

“Winning Assistant Player of the year is a great feeling and always a goal of mine,” said Iceman. “There are so many people I would like to thank. Starting with my parents, they are the ones that introduced me to the game and have always been there supporting me and pushing me to be the person and player I am today. Secondly, my wife, Candice. She is always there supporting me on and off the golf course. Without her it wouldn’t be possible to play the game at the level it takes to compete and win. And to my golf family, Bryan Slone, PGA, the staff at Weissinger Hills, members of the course, Callaway, and many other friends and family for the support and the opportunity to represent the facility and play the game I love. I look forward to teeing it up in 2023 and playing this great game.”

Iceman joins Jesse Massie, PGA and Bruce Oldendick, PGA as the Section’s ROLEX Players of the Year after their achievements were confirmed earlier this month. Each of the three players will be officially recognized at the Dever | E-Z-GO Fall Member Conference on December 5 from Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington.
