Martin, Epperson, Crabtree, and Sharpe Capture KPGA Pro-Am Championship
LOUISVILLE, KY (May 1, 2023) – Some of the toughest conditions of the young KPGA tournament season took place on Monday at Big Spring Country Club- Harmony Landing Course during the Pro-Am Championship supported by Southern Seam. With the best two gross scores from the four-person teams used to tabulate results, the winning team of Jeremy Martin, Michael Crabtree, Matt Epperson, and Tyler Sharpe fired a very impressive 131 (-11).
Like many of the teams, the winning foursome got off to a slow start of the day being 3 over par after their first three holes of competition. They then caught fire and made 14 birdies over their next 15 holes. Each player made at least one birdie during the day and three out of the four members fired even par or better which led to them topping the 42-team leaderboard.
Tadd Switzer continues his great play in the 2023 season capturing low professional honors for the day. He fired a bogey free round of 69 (-2). His impressive round consisted of zero bogeys and two birdies on holes 1 and 9. This comes on a day where the average 18-hole score was 7 over par 78.
For the first time this season, Chris Osborne and Al Chrouser shared the low senior professional honors with 75 (+4). Osborne was able to the gain the highlight of tournament on the par 3 16th hole where his smooth 7-iron shot landed in the cup for an ace. This ace marks the second of the former KPGA President’s playing career.
NOTES & STATS
- Big Spring Country Club-Harmony Landing Course played an impressive average +2.8 strokes over par during tough conditions where winds averaged around 20 mph consistently. Only 7 rounds came in at under par or better.
- The par four 16th hole made its presence felt as the hardest hole of event playing +.66 strokes over par and only allowing one birdie throughout the day.
- The par 5 first hole played the easiest of the day averaging +.09 over par. The hole allowed 27 birdies as well as 1 eagle.
- There was a difference between the difficulty of the two nines. The front nine averaged 38.24 strokes, easier than the 39.76 holes 10-18 created. Added together, that brought the average score for the day to 78.
