Oldendick and Basham Capture KPGA Pro-Pro Challenge Supported by Inward Half and Evolve Golf

LEXINGTON, KY (June 5, 2023) – Members and Associates of the Kentucky PGA Section battled it out at University Club of Kentucky. On Monday, The Big Blue course was hosting the 3rd Pro-Pro Series event of the year Supported by Evolve Golf and Inward Half. A 36-hole event, competitors teamed up in pairs of two where every nine holes featured a different format to play
under. With an impressively consistent two rounds of golf, Basham and Oldendick took first place as Wheeler and Switzer finished right behind in solo second.

The day started with a scramble format for each team, where the winning duo Basham and Oldendick started off firing a (-4) on their opening nine, five shots back from the leaders Oldham and Sullivan firing an extremely impressive (-9) on the opening nine. Basham and Oldendick fought back on the next 9 holes with a true alternate shot format, coming within 2 strokes of the leaders.
The team of Morgan and Martin went head-to-head with the other teams as well as the team of Walters and Utley all fighting at the top. Coming into the second round of play, Basham and Oldendick stayed steady at the top, all staying within just a few shots of the leaders. With the last 9 holes to go, Basham and Oldendick flew to the lead as they played combined total score format.
They shot a smooth 2 over settling the ship and taking home first place prize. For the winning team, this victory comes as their first team victory of the year in the Pro-Pro Series.

The Kentucky PGA extends its thanks to Jimmy Masters, PGA Head Golf Professional and the rest of the staff at University Club of Kentucky for their assistance in conducting today’s event.  Additionally, the KPGA lends its appreciation to John Jacey of Evolve Golf and Todd Wakefield of Inward Half for their support of the event and all Section activities throughout the year.

Notes & Stats

The Evolve Golf Total Driving Challenge was held on the Par 5, 5th Hole with the biggest hitter Jeremy Martin coming in first place, Daniel Iceman with a close second, and Matt Love coming in third.

The toughest hole of the day was the Par 4, 15 th Hole with an average score of 5.24.

The easiest hole of the day was the Par 5, 5 th Hole with an average score of 4.24 with 5 eagles throughout the day.

The average score of the day was 75.26 (+3.26) with the back nine playing as the much harder of the two sides playing at an average score of 40.59 (+4.59) compared to the front nine with an average score of 34.67 (-1.33).

Next week the section will take a break as the 109 th state Amateur takes place. The following week we are back in action with the KPGA Bill Long Mega Pro-Am at Wildwood Country Club. Presented by Cunningham and Branded Bills. To round out the week, the Section will visit Oldham County Country Club for the KPGA Pro-Junior Championship supported by Titleist, one of the most fun and rewarding events on the KPGA Tournament Calendar.
