Olde Stone's Childers and Hincks Prevail at Woodhaven in Opening Pro-Pro of 2022

Olde Stone's Childers and Hincks secure one-shot victory at Woodhaven Country Club.

LOUISVILLE, KY (April 18, 2022) – Even in a shamble format, scoring conditions for a golf tournament were as tough as one would find on Monday at Woodhaven Country Club. On a cloudy day where the temperature never got above 50 degrees and wind gusts got as strong as 20 MPH, low scores were going to be hard to come by in the Pro-Pro Shamble presented by Levelwear and supported by HMG Accessory Solutions and Hole-in-One U.S.A.

Which makes the winning score of 63 (-9) from Kevin Childers and Nathan Hincks all the more impressive. The Head Golf Professional at The Club at Olde Stone and his Assistant Golf Professional made their way around Woodhaven with an eagle, eight birdies and just one bogey. As a result, they prevailed by a stroke over a pair of teams, with Myles Mahan/Jesse Massie and Scott Sedgwick/Logan Watts sharing the runner-up spot.

All three of those teams tied for most birdies made by any team, but the host professionals in Mahan/Massie were hurt by a double bogey on the par-four 2nd. Sedgwick/Watts were one of four teams that played the round bogey-free but ended up one birdie shy from matching Childers/Hincks.

For the Olde Stone duo, it marks their first Pro-Pro victory together in a year where their club will receive a lot of attention in the months to come. With the U.S. Girls Junior approaching in July and the Kentucky PGA Professional Championship in September, much of Childers and Hincks’ time has been dedicated to preparing for a big year ahead work-wise. As competitors, today’s performance aided in what is destined to be a big 2022 for Olde Stone.

NOTES & STATS

  • There were four eagles made in the competition including the one from the champions, which occurred on the par-five 6th. The teams of Ryan Sanders/Matt Love and Nathan Downs/Will Schneider each made eagle on the par-five 15th. Mahan/Massie rounded out the eagles making the only one of the day on the par-five 18th.
  • The 15th was the easiest hole of the competition with a stroke-to-par average of -0.51. In addition to the two eagles, eighteen teams made birdies on that hole.
  • The par-four 2nd was the hardest hole of the day by a significant margin at +0.84. 0.27 strokes harder than the next-toughest (hole 7), it was the only hole to not have a birdie made on it.
  • After the competition, an optional after-party contest was held on Woodhaven’s par-three course. Scored as a combined score shamble, Steve Shafer/Kim Shafer and Barry Payne/Darren Wittenberg tied for first with scores of 51 (-3).
  • Steve Shafer made a hole-in-one on the 3rd hole during that contest. With his partner and wife Kim able to record a 1 as well because of that shot, the Shafers were able to play the hole a combined four-under par.
