Nick Johnston & Chris Wilson Take Title in Pro-Pro Shamble supported by HMG Accessory Solutions

LOUISVILLE, KY (April 12, 2021) – The Pro-Pro Shamble supported by HMG Accessory Solutions led to the first playoff of 2021. It was a sizable one, that playoff, but Nick Johnston and Chris Wilson triumphed at Lake Forest Country Club to get the victory.

In this format where two-person teams each hit a tee shot, picked the better shot, and holed out individually from there, Johnston/Wilson shot 65 (-7). That total was matched by Andrew Stephens/Colby Wollitz, Robert Costello/Adam Webb and Daniel Iceman III/Brad Maynard. The sudden-death playoff took two holes, and after Iceman III/Maynard were eliminated with a bogey on the first, Johnston/Wilson’s par on the second was enough to get the job done against bogeys from Stephens/Wollitz and Costello/Webb.

For the two prevailing golfers, a couple of eagles on the par-five 7th and 14th holes played a big role in them getting to -7. Birdies came on the 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 18th holes while the only bogey came on the 15th.

NOTES & STATS

  • Mark Jackie of Cunningham | Yamaha was on hand at the par-three 13th hole hosting a closest-to-the-hole competition. Kyle Sheffer of Oldham County Country Club best attacked the 130-yard hole, as his tee shot to four feet won him and partner Josh Griffin two bottles of Maker’s Mark.
  • The shamble format helped make eagles more accessible today, as twelve in all were recorded. Of particular note was one from Steven Conley, which came on the par-four 3rd. All other eagles came on a par-five.
  • The par-five 7th garnered two of those eagles which helped it play as the easiest hole of the tournament at a stroke-to-par average of -0.53.
  • The long par-four 5th was quite the challenge, allowing only one birdie on its way to being the hardest hole. It played +0.54. Nathan Hincks was the lone man to play it under par.

The Kentucky PGA extends its thanks to Keith Ohr, PGA Head Golf Professional at Lake Forest Country Club and his staff for hosting today’s event. Additionally, appreciation is expressed towards Jeff Ammerman of HMG Accessory Solutions for their partnership in the event and to Mark Jackie for hosting the closest-to-the-hole contest.
