Man O’ War Golf Learning Center provided a fun-filled day for the Drive, Chip & Putt participants at today’s Local Qualifier. The Kona Ice Truck seemed to be the most popular spot on the property! A special thanks to Brad Bachand and the incredible volunteers that made this a special day for the kids.
The Local Qualifying stage is the first step on the Road to Augusta. The Top 3 Qualifiers from each division will continue onto the Sub-Regional Qualifier to be held at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club in Louisville, KY on August 13th. The Regional Qualifier will be at the Honors Course in Tennessee on September 24th. The juniors who make it through all 3 stages of Qualifying will then compete at the National Drive, Chip & Putt Championship to be held at Augusta National Golf Club on April 1, 2018.
The Girls 7-9 Division kicked off the day as Athena Singh (Morehead, KY) was the Overall Winner with a total score of 113. Abigail Caine (Versailles, KY) and Sarah Margaret Ebel (Louisville, KY) finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively as all 3 girls qualified for the next stage of the competition.
Thaxton Cheyne (Canton, GA) posted a score of 114 to pull off the victory in the Boys 7-9 Division. Brady Parker and Luke Harrigan will be joining him at the next qualifier to be held at Persimmon Ridge. They had scores of 98 and 93 respectively.
The Girls 10-11 Division was won with a total score of 114 posted by Cailyn Rogers (Midway, KY). Georgia Blair Scott (Lexington, KY) and Kylah Lunsford (Lexington, KY) followed with scores of 91 and 81.
The Boys 10-11 Division proved to be highly competitive. Hudson Capps (Knoxville, TN) secured the win with a total score of 114. Andrew Noble of Tell City, IN and Bradford Lacefield of Versailles, KY rounded out the qualifiers with scores of 111 and 105 respectively.
Claiming the Overall victory for the Girls 12-13 Division in a scorecard playoff with a total score of 100 was Isabella Wiley (Bagdad, KY). She edged out Kariann Campbell (Lexington, KY) for the victory. In 3rd place was Morgan Shown of Lexington, KY.
Logan Liles from Vanceburg, KY was the Overall Champion of the Boys 12-13 Division with a total score of 145. This division was the largest group of the day. Hayden Adams (Lexington, KY) finished second with a score of 124. Hayden made it all the way to Augusta last year, so he is trying for a repeat performance! In 3rd place was Alex Bennett of Georgetown, KY with a total of 123.
The Girls 14-15 Division was won by Miller Luhan from Lexington, KY with a combined score of 126. Olivia Hensley (Ashland, KY) and Mary Keene Marrs (Lexington, KY) finished 2nd and 3rd and earned their qualifying spots for Persimmon Ridge.
The Boys 14-15 Division closed out the competition for the event. Evan Noble from Tell City, IN claimed this division with a score of 128 and joined his brother by advancing. Michael Moss (Lexington, KY) and Jonathan Bryant (Pikeville, KY) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
