2016 Fightmaster Fun!
It was a beautiful day for the 2016 Don Fightmaster Golf Outing for Exceptional Children on May 3 at Shawnee Golf Course. This 38th annual Kentucky Derby Festival event featured a few new faces and friends and culminated in a great day of golfing fun for our exceptional children. Marty Storch, of Louisville Metro Parks, Steve McMillen and Kentucky Golf Hall of Famer, Don Fightmaster kicked off the day with almost 75 junior golfers from Jefferson County Public Schools and Fort Knox heading out the the Youth Course at Shawnee to enjoy golf, laughs and fun. There were many notable faces in the crowd, including Derby Festival Committee Members, Jerry Wyman of JCPS, Mr. Fightmaster and his family, the Kentucky Derby Princesses, First Tee of Louisville Staff and Volunteers, Kentucky PGA professionals and outstanding young junior golfers from across the Commonwealth - just to name a few. Two inflatable hitting targets drew excitement from children, administrators and volunteers alike attempting to hit “birdie balls” into their open mouths. All in all many smiles, laughs and great golf shots were had, ending with a delicious lunch courtesy of Salsaritas, cake made by the bakery at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and the Princesses and Mr. Fightmaster awarding medals to the players. There are so many people to thank who made this heart warming day possible – the Kentucky Golf Foundation, the Don Fightmaster Committee and Family, Special Olympics, Shawnee Golf Course, Salsarita’s Middletown and Saint Matthews locations, The First Tee of Louisville, Kentucky PGA Junior Tour Players, The Kentucky Derby Festival and its Princesses, Kentucky PGA professionals (and a few old friends from the Indiana Section), Inside Kentucky Golf and PNC Bank and most of all – Mother Nature for a truly beautiful day.
