NICHOLASVILLE, KY (July 21, 2019) - The Barbasol Championship and Golf House Kentucky announced the introduction of the Barbasol Junior Championship, a 54-hole junior stroke play championship which will be contested on June 29th – July 2nd, 2020 at the Keene Run Golf Course. The tournament field will consist of 78 of the top junior golfers from across the world, with the champion earning a coveted exemption into the 2020 PGA Tour Barbasol Championship.

“The Barbasol Championship is committed to its ongoing investment in the great sport of golf and our golfers, including juniors and professionals. We are excited to be partnering with Golf House Kentucky to introduce this unique event beginning in 2020,” said Bryan Pettigrew, Tournament Director of the Barbasol Championship.

Last year, the Barbasol Championship became the first PGA TOUR tournament to be held in Kentucky since the Kentucky Derby Open was contested in Louisville from 1957-59. The tournament recently signed a five-year extension with Barbasol as the title sponsor, securing the future at Keene Trace Golf Club’s Champions Course through 2023.

Golf House Kentucky, a non-profit organization comprised of the Kentucky Golf Association, Kentucky PGA Section and Kentucky Golf Foundation, also played an integral role in making the event a reality.

“We are dedicated to promoting the game of golf throughout Kentucky, and I believe that a junior golf tournament of this magnitude will shine the spotlight directly on golf in our state,” said Brent Paladino, Executive Director of Golf House Kentucky. “It will also provide a unique opportunity for local junior golfers to earn their way into the field and compete for a spot in a PGA Tour event in their home state.”

The Barbasol Junior Championship will become one of only two junior golf tournaments in the country to offer an exemption to a PGA Tour event. The AJGA’s Puerto Rico Junior Open also offers an exemption to the Puerto Rico Open. The Barbasol Junior champion will get the unique opportunity to play with the pro’s in the 2020 Barbasol Championship, which will be contested on July 16th - 19th at Champions at Keene Trace Golf Club.

“We want to use our resources to grow the game of golf across the country, and we believe junior golf in Kentucky can lead this effort,” said William B. Frye, co-owner of Keene Trace Golf Club.

Applications for the 2020 Barbasol Junior Championship will be available beginning Monday, January 6th, 2020. For complete information on the Barbasol Junior Championship please visit: www.barbasoljunior.com
