Brown Takes Home the Title at University Club at Arlington
RICHMOND, KY- The 2023 Kentucky Girls Junior PGA Championship concluded on Wednesday at the University Club of Arlington. Just like the weather, Macie Brown brought the heat finishing the two days an impressive -9 total of 135.
Brown finished up Tuesday’s round with an impressive 6 birdies and one eagle on the card to shoot 68. She followed it up on Wednesday with 5 birdies, 2 bogeys and one eagle totaling -4 score of 67. She had the pedal to the floor with back-to-back birdies on holes twelve and thirteen giving her a 5 shot lead for most of the back nine. Athena Singh made an effort to catch Brown, getting within two shots at one point during the final round. Singh finished up her final round with a total of 70 making her two-day total 140. Both qualified for the 2023 PGA Junior Championship which will be held at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas August 1-4, 2023.
Six others also left Arlington with major titles in hand, beginning with Georgia Scott who won the girls 13-15 Division after a playoff against Mollie Neeley. The girls both shot a two-day total of 155 (+11), but Georgia took the title after one playoff hole.
Adrian Bewley came away with the Boys 11-12 title by 4 shots. He was tied with Trip Neely after day one with a score of 38 (+2) but took it away with an even par score on Wednesday.
After a second consecutive round of 37 (+2) Piper Dunn ended up on top of the Girls 10-12 Division. Mary Clayton had the lead after day one with 34 (-2) but lost by 1 shot for the title.
Max DeHaven in the Boys 10 & Under Division got the job done again and now has 6 wins on this year’s junior tour after the tournament. He shot a total score of 77 (+5) after an even par round on day two.
The Girls 9 & Under Division was a close match, but Annalise Morris came back to win it. Kylie Miller was a close second with a total score of 89 (+17). To round out the winners at Arlington Braden Hendricks came away with the Boys 8 & Under title, making this his third win this year.
