The friendly competition continued on August 7 for the final round of the Kentucky Four-Ball Championship hosted by Gibson Bay.  The weather was a much more mild climate than that of day one, with a high of 86 degrees and a mild breeze all day, which led to a perfect day for golf. In the Masters division Jim Caudill and Eddie Venters finished a cool four-under par 140 to claim 1st place in the gross section of the division.  After the handicaps were taken out of each score, James Stricker and Willie Willard claimed 1st with a 21-under par score of 123.  The competition was close amongst the net section though, with the other teams all within six shots of the winners. The Players division provided a good show with one team in the age group.  The duo of Michael Crabtree and Bill Morgan took home the honors for the division. In the Senior division the top two gross scores were taken along with the top net score.  Kenneth Kircher and Stefan Robbins took the top spot for the gross Senior Division.  Along with claiming victory, Stefan Robbins dropped his tee shot into the hole for an ace on hole #3.  Right behind the winners was the dynamic duo of Steve Humphrey and Christopher Chee shooting a 135 over two days to claim the second spot.  The gross section for the Senior division was a nail biter with all but two teams having under par rounds.  Michael Skaggs and Kevin Easton backed their first round 65 with a second round 64 to claim the top net spot. The Open division was a close contest for all six places that were awarded.  All the teams in the Open division were either below par or one over.  In sixth place with a nine-under par, 136, was the team of Joshua Rhodes and Davis Boland.  The team was tied with one other but the USGA method for breaking ties was employed and broke the tie.  One shot behind, in fifth place was the duo of Taylor Riggs and Will Sallee.  Tying at fourth were the teams of DJ Vogt and Billy Tom Sargent along with Matt Epperson and Denver Haddix Jr.  Again using the suggested method for tie-breaks, Vogt and Sargent would finish in fourth and Epperson and Haddix would take third.  In the runner-up spot, two shots behind the champions of the Four-Ball Championship, were Rob Crockett II and Andy Roberts with a 12-under par 133.  Winning the 2016 Kentucky Four-Ball Championship, with a score of 131, Jacob Cook and Nick Wilkins put on a show for the spectators following their group. First Round Highlights Teams of talented amateur golfers teed it up on Saturday, August 6 for the opening round of the Kentucky Four-Ball Championship at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond.  Teamwork is the name of the game in Four-Ball competition, where the best score of the two-person team is counted on each hole. The players wouldn’t let expected rain and a short- lived rain delay hinder their fun. In the open division, strictly gross, Jacob Cook and Nick Wilkins lead the field with an eight-under par score of 64.  Closely on their heels are DJ Vogt and Billy Tom Sargent, only two shots back.  There are three teams one shot behind them and the rest of the division remains poised to make a move tomorrow. In the Senior gross division, Steve Humphrey and Christopher Chee lead with a smooth five-under par, 67; Kenneth Kirchner and Stefan Robbins look to make a move tomorrow being only one shot behind.  In the net division for seniors, Kevin Easton and Mitchell Skaggs are tied with Humphrey and Chee at 65.  In the Master gross division John Mac Cole and Rick Smith are tied at even par with the team of Jerry Edwards and Ralph Guess along with Jim Caudill and Eddie Venters.  Mac Cole and Smith lead the Master net division by one shot over James Stricker and Willie Willard. The day was a hot and muggy day on the golf course.  Just like so many other tournaments this time of year, storms popped up out of nowhere and drenched the golf course along with several players resulting in a half-hour rain delay.  After the delay, play resumed and the players rolled in after finishing 18 to post their opening round scores.
