Golf House's 2019 in Review: April

April is the time of year when things really get kicking in the Commonwealth for golfers. The 2019 campaign of tournaments launched for the Kentucky PGA Section and Kentucky Golf Association with each passing week bringing better weather and more golf tournaments.

The Kaiser Cup once again kicked off the competitive season for the KPGA as two teams were crafted putting the best Assistant Golf Professionals from the previous season against the top Members from 2018. For the second consecutive year, it was the Members who triumphed thanks to a 12-8 win at Belterra Resort in Florence, Indiana.

Two days after Tiger Woods’ historic Masters win, the KGA Amateur Series began anew at Nevel Meade Golf Course. Perhaps Woods’ victory served as inspiration to Kentucky golfers, because the event provided one of the largest tournament fields in recent history for the Amateur Series with 116 total competitors. Nick Johnston, Paul Jackson, Lance Lucas, Bryan McCoy, Gary Backlund, Rick Adkins, Dean Keown, and Jerry Edwards claiming the various titles.

A Pro-Pro Shamble at Frankfort Country Club welcomed all KPGA Professionals to competitive golf for the first time all season. Andrew Stephens and Jesse Massie teamed up to capture the first of what would be multi-win seasons for each player.

One week later, the EZLinks Pro-Senior Championship at Big Spring Country Club Inc. – Harmony Landing Campus provided a winning squad of Dan Utley, Bruce Besten, Pete Popovich, and Steve Pudlo.

The month culminated with the best feel-good day of the year as the Don Fightmaster Golf Outing for Exceptional Children. This one-of-a-kind event brought KPGA Professionals, Kentucky PGA Junior Tour players, the Golf House Kentucky staff, and the Kentucky Derby princesses to one place for the purpose of bringing smiles to the faces of special-needs children. As is the case every year in this event, the smiles and happiness produced in this event exceed any other event Golf House Kentucky puts on.
