KGA POYs Announced
It was an exciting 2015 season for the Kentucky Golf Association and even the Player of the Year Points races came down to the final events! The KGA is pleased to present this year's Players of the Year based on the Bushnell Amateur Standings! The Women's Player of the Year honors once again go to Emma Talley of Princeton. Talley represented the Commonwealth in the U.S. Women's Open in 2015. The John Owens Player of the Year is Denver Haddix, Jr. of Lexington. Haddix nipped Owensboro's Andy Roberts by less than 30 points for this year's top honors. Haddix finished tied for Second in the Clark's Pump-N-Shop | Marathon Kentucky Amateur, was a Quarter Finalist in the Kentucky Match Play Championship, advanced to Match Play in the 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, was a part of the winning duo (with Matt Epperson) in the Kentucky Four-Ball Championship and also finished in the Top 20 of the Kentucky Open. The Mid-Senior Player of the Year (ages 40-54) was Davis Boland of Louisville. Competing the in Mid-Senior Division, Boland won the Kentucky Senior Amateur and KGA Senior Team Championship (alongside partner David Brown). He was Runner-Up in the Kentucky Match Play Championship and finished Eighth in the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Marathon Kentucky Amateur. The Tom Musselman Player of the Year (ages 55-64) is Steve Humphrey of Lexington. Humphrey had an impressive 2015 season with many accolades. He finished Second in the Prudential Kentucky Senior Open, won the Kentucky Senior Match Play Championship, the Senior Division of the Kentucky Mid-Amateur Championship, the Senior Division of the Kentucky Four-Ball Championship, the Senior Division of the KGA Amateur Series events at Houston Oaks, Kenton County and The Links at Novadell. He and partner Christopher Chee finished tied for Second in the Senior Team Championship. He also finished Third in the Senior Division of the Kentucky Amateur Series at Polo Fields and tied for Fifth in the Am Series Championship. The Dale Barnstable Player of the Year (ages 65-71) is Joe Lenahan of Louisville. Lenahan was the Masters Division Champion of the Kentucky Senior Amateur at Danville Country Club. He also finished Third in the Masters Division of the Masters Division of the Kentucky Mid-Amateur Championship. The Don Smith Player of the Year (ages 72+) was Jerry Edwards of Louisville. Edwards won the Legends Division of the KGA Amateur Series at Olde Stone in addition to finishing Second at Houston Oaks and Links at Novadell and finishing Fourth at Kenton County and Polo Fields. He also finished Second in the Legends Division of the Kentucky Senior Amateur and Fourth with partner Ralph Guess in the Senior Team Championship. Congratulations to each of these individuals on a terrific season! We enjoyed watching them play some of their best golf! We also would like to thank everyone who participated in Kentucky Golf Association events this season - we look forward to seeing everyone in 2016!
