Justice/Davis/Tereshko/Martin Power to Victory at Big Spring

LOUISVILLE, KY (June 8, 2020) – While the year of 2020 has been filled with uncertainty, a familiar refrain came across Big Spring Country Club on Monday for the first Kentucky PGA Section event of the season. Grover Justice, the Section’s reigning OMEGA Player of the Year, found the winner’s circle in both the team and individual portions of the KPGA Pro-Am Championship at Big Spring Country Club.

Justice led a top-level team with amateurs Evan Davis, Justin Tereshko and Alex Martin to a three-shot margin of victory by virtue of their 131 (-13) total which was composed of the two low scores on each hole. Finishing in a tie for second with scores of 134 (-10) were the teams of Jesse Massie, Jon Ice, Rob Crockett, and Andy Roberts along with Adam Gary, John Kernohan, Jeff Gumm, and Ben Wheeler.

Individually, Justice recorded a round of 70 (-2) to win the low professional title by two shots over Blake Watts. Justice made two birdies on the opening two holes at Big Spring to begin his round while a bogey at the 5th was canceled out by a birdie at the 9th. From there, it was smooth-sailing as Justice made nine straight pars on his back nine to polish off a solid season-opening performance.

NOTES AND STATS

  • Andy Roberts recorded a blistering start to his round on Monday by playing his first ten holes in five under par. It was a 67 (-5) in the end for Roberts, the low round shot by any competitor (amateur or professional).
  • This is the second straight year Justice has won the team title in the Pro-Am Championship at Big Spring. He also tied Jesse Massie for low professional honors in 2019.
  • Sean Crocker made the only eagle of the day by making one on the par-five 10th. He and his teammates Daniel Iceman III, Grace Clark and Tommy Hart finished in a tie for eleventh place.
  • The par-four 9th was the hardest hole in the tournament, playing at an average of +0.50 strokes over par. Just six players made birdie while forty-eight players made bogey or worse.
  • The hole following it, the par-five 10th, was the easiest hole. At +0.09, it yielded the eagle from Crocker and seventeen birdies.

The Kentucky PGA Section would like to thank all competitors who participated in the tournament and for following the adjusted tournament protocols due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, the Section expresses its gratitude towards the staff at Big Spring Country Club for their accommodations and hospitality throughout the day.
