Bruce Oldendick Defends his Kentucky Senior PGA Professional Championship Title
For the second consecutive year, Bruce Oldendick has won the Kentucky PGA Senior Professional Championship. Entering the final round at Dale Hollow State Resort Park trailing by two strokes, the Florence Professional utilized a final-round score of 70 (-2) to complete the 36-hole event at 144 (E). Oldendick’s inward nine of 35 (-1) leapfrogged him over his fellow competitors, topping Greg Basham of Louisville by a stroke and Hodgenville’s Steve Cox by two strokes.
The victory for Oldendick comes on the heels of a disappointing second place finish at the Kentucky Senior Open when Oldendick was unable to convert on a first-round lead and was defeated by Cox on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff at Houston Oaks Golf Course. Today’s win nets him a first-place check of $1,060 and an exemption into October’s Senior PGA Professional Championship.
Basham and Cox will join Oldendick in venturing to Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas on October 3-6 based off their finishes in the top three this week. Each PGA Professional from across the country competing there seeks an exemption into the 2020 Senior PGA Championship which will be contested at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan next spring.
The Kentucky PGA Section would like to thank Dale Hollow State Resort Park and their staff for hosting this week’s Championship. The participation of each player is also recognized, and the Section appreciates each player for their efforts in competing. Congratulations to Bruce on defending his championship!
