Kentucky Golf Association
KY Golfers to Winged Foot
45 golfing duos teed it up at Kearney Hill Golf Links on October 14 for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier. On the day after Kearney celebrated it's 26th anniversary of it's opening, it hosted this local qualifier on a beautiful fall day. The Four-Ball Championship is in it's second year and has replaced the now retired U.S. Pub-Links on the USGA's Championship Calendar. The event at Kearney attracted players from all over Kentucky and many states from across the country. The players competed in a gross better ball (four-ball) format for two qualifying and two alternate positions. The qualifiers move to the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at the famed Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York in May. The Medalists for the day were Rob Garland and Charles Keene of Tennessee with a round of 64 in the gross better ball (four-ball) format. They finished one shot ahead the Kentucky duo of Robert Crockett, II of Louisville and Andy Roberts of Owensboro. We wish these gentlemen the best of luck in the Championship and we look forward to rooting them on! The alternate positions were left up to a playoff against three teams that fired a round of 66 in regulation play: Lexington brothers Tyler and Todd McDaniel, Lexington's Denver Haddix, Jr. and Matt Epperson and South Carolina's Geno Berchiatti and Robert Lutomski. The McDaniel's secured the first alternate position and Berchiatti and Lutomski secured the final spot. Thanks to all who participated and to Kearney Hill for being wonderful hosts!
