Grover Justice Wins Mobile Pro Shop Stableford Classic

RICHMOND, KY (September 8, 2020) – Grover Justice’s reign of dominance in Kentucky PGA Section tournaments continued on Tuesday with a victory in the Mobile Pro Shop Stableford Classic. Contested at Boone’s Trace National Golf Club, Justice scored 47 in the unique format to win by three points over Daniel Iceman III and Andrew Stephens. The victory comes two weeks after a seven-stroke win at Valhalla Golf Club in the Kentucky PGA Professional Championship and is the third time in all he’s emerged victorious in a Section event this year.

Justice played a round that featured six birdies, eleven pars and one bogey to get his latest KPGA trophy. An albatross was worth eight points, an eagle worth six, a birdie worth four, a par worth two, bogey worth one, and double bogey or worse equaling zero. Iceman had the chance to tie Justice and force a playoff if he made birdie on the 18th, but a bogey guaranteed victory for Justice while Stephens simultaneously made his sixth birdie in eleven holes on the 18th to bring him into a tie with Iceman. Steven Conley and Nick Johnston round out the top-five with T4 finishes after each player scored 43.

NOTES & STATS

  • This was the first Golf House Kentucky sanctioned competition of 2020 in which players were permitted to remove the flagstick from the hole. Rakes were also in place which meant the modified bunker rules that had been in effect for the first part of the season did not apply.
  • Steven Conley was the only player to have a six-point hole. He made eagle on the par-five 6th, the lowest score recorded on any hole today.
  • That 6th hole was the easiest of the competition after being played in a stroke-to-par average of -0.24.
  • Although the par-four 5th measures on the shorter side of the spectrum, it was the hardest hole of the day at +0.38.
