Round Two Helps Austin Burke & Brian Edwards take the Titleist/FootJoy Team Championship

LEXINGTON, KY (September 11, 2023) – Today marked another great event at the Titleist/FootJoy Team Championship at the Gay Brewer, Jr. Course at Picadome. The event sees a professional and amateur player team up for the thirty-six hole tournament, with the duo of Austin Burke and Brian Edwards making a second-round charge to take home the win with rounds of 65-62 for a 17-under total of 127.
The day began at an 8:30 a.m., with round one played in a four-ball format. The team of Kelly Maxwell, PGA and Allen Hamilton took the morning round, shooting an impressive 11-under 61 that included an eagle on 18 for Hamilton. Not far behind at 9-under sat Myles Mahan, PGA and Eric Meier after their round of 63, marked by an eagle and multiple birdies. Many teams tied for third at 8-under.
The teams headed back out on the course in the afternoon for another 18 - a Chapman alternate shot. There was a significant shift in the leaderboard during round 2, with the team of Austin Burke and Brian Edwards shooting 62 to place first for round two, compared to tying for seventh in round one. This 62 was enough to vault them to first place overall, winning the tournament by two over the Mahan/Meier duo. Keith Ohr, PGA and Mike Thorp landed not far behind in the second round, with an 8-under round of 64 placing them in second. The Mahan/Meier duo placed second in the overall competition.
NOTES & STATS
- The low round of the day belongs to Maxwell and Hamilton with their first round 61 in the fourball format. The second lowest round of the day was the 62 from Burke and Edwards, which was also the lowest round in the Chapman alternate shot format.
- There were a total of 16 eagles today, all coming on par 5s.
- The easiest hole of the day was the par-5 18th, with four eagles and 45 birdies contributing to a 4.63 scoring average.
- Teams fired 31 rounds under 70 over the course of the tournament.

The Section concludes its September schedule on September 18th at the second Pro-Senior Presented by Wilson Golf at Summitt Hills Country Club. The KPGA returns on October 5th for the Longwell Pro-Am at Lake Forest Country Club. Registration for this event is still open until September 29th.
