Taylor County Wins Middle School State Championship

LOUISVILLE - A total of 100 players were registered to compete in the KPGA Middle School State Championship held at Quail Chase GC (South-West). The competition included individual Boys and Girls competition with many of hte players competing as a member of teams with five players. Players and teams advanced to the Championship by competing in Regional competitions on September 24-25. The Champion in the team division was Taylor County Middle School who was led by Luke Coyle (71) and Hayes Mason (73) The best three scores were used for the team score. Highlands Middle School edged Gray Middle School to finish as the runner-up using the 1st tiebreaker which was the fourth best score from the team. In the individual boys competition, Jay Nimmo (South Marshall Middle) fired a -2 (70) to capture the Boys Individual Championship. Luke Coyle (Taylor County Middle) was also under par finishing one shot behind Nimmo. One shot further back was Andrew Caldwell (Bell Central) who was one shot ahead of Hayes Mason (Taylor County Middle) who finished in 4th. Jackson Hill (James Madison Middle) edged Clay Pendergrass (Clark Moores Middle) in a scorecard playoff to finish 5th. In the individual girls competition, Macie Brown (Eastside Middle School) won the Girls Individual Championship for the second straight year with a consisted round of 77. Bree Russell (Metcalfe County Middle) finished as the Runner-Up one shot behind Brown. In a three-way scorecard playoff for 3rd Place, Savannah Howell (North Marshall Middle) edged Grace Clark (Shelby County East Middle) and Grace Walker (Christian Academy-Louisville) as all three players shot 82.
