Tom Morrison & Jackie Resinger Named 2022 Distinguished Service Award Recipients

Morrison and Resinger named recipients of 2022 Distinguished Service Award.

LOUISVILLE, KY (October 21, 2022) –Tom Morrison and Jackie Resinger have been selected as the recipients of the 2022 Distinguished Service Award. This honor is bestowed by the Kentucky Golf Foundation’s Board of Directors in recognition of those who have made significant contributions to the betterment of golf in Kentucky.

Morrison is 94 years young and remains involved with efforts to promote Kentucky golf today after beginning his service to the sport nearly fifty years ago. His volunteerism began with efforts surrounding the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. After competing in the tournament multiple times, Morrison took it upon himself to drive continued participation from Kentuckians in the event and became the USGA’s committee person on behalf of the Kentucky Golf Association for that event, which he did for seventeen years. Additionally, Morrison volunteered at several Louisville-area facilities including Shawnee Golf Course, Seneca Golf Course, Long Run Golf Course, and Glen Oaks Country Club. He also dedicated a great deal of his time during the fall to Trinity High School, serving as a volunteer to the Shamrocks’ golf team.

“I met Tom during my early years as the Head Professional at Shawnee Golf Course and we connected right away,” recalled Moe Demling, PGA Head Golf Professional at Crescent Hill Golf Course. “I always appreciated the way Tom viewed public golfers and public golf courses. He felt everyone deserved a fair chance to compete. For someone who could have chosen another path in sports to excel in, I’m thrilled he chose the path of the links to venture down. Even in his nineties, Tom still swings and plays as much as he can and passes his knowledge and wisdom onto junior golfers of today.”

Resinger herself has dedicated much of her life’s work to golfers in Kentucky and continues today at age 83. She is a Past President of the Women’s Kentucky State Golf Association and has also served on the Kentucky Golf Association’s Board of Directors. Resinger and impending Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame inductee Tennye Ohr, PGA were instrumental in the creation of the Kentucky Women’s Open in the 1990s as both sought to provide the state’s top female amateurs and Professionals the opportunity to compete together on the same stage. The crystal that each champion is presented by winning the tournament was donated by Resinger. Her work in the game extends to serving on committees for the USGA focusing on girls golf for more than two decades, and advocating on behalf of the Kentucky Wildcats’ women’s golf team.

“I have been associated with Kentucky golf for most of my life and I cannot think of anyone who has donated more time and resources to this game we love,” said Ohr. “Her passion for the game is far-reaching and has consistently been a strong presence in improving golf for everyone in the state. Her representation of Kentucky on the USGA Junior Girls Committee has been particularly meaningful in the advancement of girls’ golf in Kentucky.”

Morrison and Resinger will be formally recognized at the upcoming Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony which is scheduled to take place on the evening of Thursday, December 15 at Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington.

The Kentucky Golf Foundation, Kentucky Golf Association and Kentucky PGA Section congratulate Morrison and Resinger on these well-deserved awards and thanks them for their services to golfers in Kentucky.
