Conditions were best described as wet, windy and wicked for the final leg of the Kentucky Golf Association Amateur Series on August 16 at Traditions Golf Club in Hebron.  Rains, wind gusts and a difficult championship layout made scoring difficult for the over 60 players competing across five divisions, comprised of Senior Division players (ages 55-64), Legends Division players (ages 65-71), Legends Division players (ages 72 and over), Players Division (all ages, gross and net) and Open Division (all ages, gross only).  Their hard work was for good reason, the top finishers in the five Amateur Series events continue to the Series Championship at Heritage Hill Golf Club in early September. The Masters Division were the first to brave the difficult conditions.  Jim Caudill of Morehead took home Low Gross Honors after a solid round of 78.  He had a two-shot victory over Terry Bowman of Louisville.  Bowman beat out Bill Kinzeler of Hebron in a scorecard playoff for Second Place. Likewise, Kinzeler beat out Mike Price for Third.  On the Net Side, Steve Houchen of Falmouth posted the finest round of the bunch with a two-under-par 70 and a four-shot victory.  Elmo Greer of London finished second and an additional shot behind Greer was Eddie Venters of Lexington. The Legends Division finished their battle with some great scores.  Low Gross honors went to Vernon Denham of Louisville with a three-over-par round of 75 and a one-shot victory.  Jerry Edwards of Louisville took home Low Net honors with an equally impressive round of 67 and a two-shot victory. The Senior Division was next to post their results and proved that maybe the rainy conditions were a welcome change from the sweltering heat and humidity that has been present for much of the season. Scott Pottinger of Louisville posted a terrific round of two-under-par 70 for the Low Gross honors and a two-shot victory over Roger Schoeni, playing on his home course.  Michael Smith of Louisville continued his good play in 2016 with a third place finish and a round of 76. Kenneth Kirchner of Lexington finished Fourth and Scott Hansel of Independence rounded out the top gross finishers with a 79.  Tim Medley of Union posted a four-under-par 68 for Low Net Honors and a three shot victory over Mike Gosnell of Louisville. Bob Ware of Louisville broke the tie among players posting an even-par net score to finish Third.  He was followed by Gregory Turner of Alexandria.  Curtis Wuellner of Hebron had another top finish in the Am Series with a Fifth Place Net finish after a 72. Ken Francke of Nicholasville posted the top round of the Players Division for a Low Gross victory after a round of 80. Jason Parroco of Prospect posted another top finish in an Amateur Series event, taking home the Low Net Honors after a round of 79. Another solid round of torrential downpours plagued the final holes for the Open Division as they were finishing their rounds.  That didn't deter Andrew Paschal of Louisville, who won the division in solid fashion after a round of three-over-par 75.
