Shepherdsville, KY — Some of the best amateurs in the state of Kentucky played in the final round of the Kentucky Senior Amateur Championship held at Heritage Hill Golf Club. Eighty players battled for titles in the various divisions including the Championship Division (open to all ages 55 and over), Mid-Senior Division (for those ages 40-54), Senior Division (ages 55-64), Masters Division (ages 65-71) and Legends Division (ages 72 and over).
The Mid-Senior Division was the first group to finish the day. Tom Campbell maintained his lead from round one and finished with a total gross score of 3-under-par 141. Campbell was the only Mid Senior to break par. This was a nice win for Campbell, who came in third in last year’s tournament. Campbell and David DeWilde tied for first place in the Mid-Senior Net Division scoring 1-under-par 143.
Rick Cain fought hard in today’s round with 2-under-par 70, moving up from yesterday’s third place finish, to claim victory. Cain finished four total shots ahead of the second place winner, Eddie Venters, who finished with a total gross score of 4-over par 148. On the net side, Danny Ashlock finished in first place with an impressive total 10-under-par 133, with Venters coming in second place on the Net side as well.
In the Legends Division, Don Wood continued his first place status from Round one, ending the tournament with an even par of 144. Wood won first place in the 2016 Kentucky Amateur Championship, and hopes to hold on to the title next year too! Tommy Thompson tied with Wood for first place on the Net side, with a total score of 6-under-par 138.
Last year’s Runner-Up, Scott Ray, took home the victory in this year’s Senior Division with a total gross 7-under-par 137. Ray played a consistent game over the two days, holding his first place position in both rounds, like winners of the Mid-Senior and Legends Divisions. Buddy Bryant came in second place with a two day total of 4-under-par 140.
Congratulations to all of the winners of the 2017 Senior Kentucky Amateur, and a huge thank you to Heritage Hill Golf Club for helping make this such a successful event!
