The Kentucky Golf Association has announced it will not adopt the senior flight system tested at the KGA Amateur Series at Nevel Meade. The senior flight system tested at the first event required a senior to choose if they wanted to play in gross or net scoring. If a senior chose to play gross, they played again seniors in their age division. If a senior chose to play net, they would play against all seniors in the field, but would play from the tees assigned for their age division. Based on player feedback from players in the event and those who could not play, the Senior Player Advisors recommend the Tournament Committee not to adopt this flight system for the other KGA Amateur Series events.
Over the winter the KGA Tournament Committee and Senior Player Advisors worked together to think of solutions to enhance the prize purse,” stated KGA Executive Director, Steve McMillen. “We knew this was a unique solution, thus before we fully adopted it, we wanted to test it with the first event. Before and after the event, we gained valuable insight from senior tournament members. The insight determined while it was creative solution, it was not the right solution.”
As a result of the decision to not adopt the tested flight system, seniors will again enter an event and be eligible to play in gross and net scoring within their age division at all remaining KGA Amateur Series events. The KGA Tournament Committee and Senior Player Advisors will continue to work on ideas to enhance the prize purse as well as all aspects of the tournaments.
