Lexington, KY – 102 amateurs and professional began their quest to qualify for the U.S. Open at the 7,129 yard Kearney Hill Golf Links. Six players qualified for Sectionals. Tyler McDaniel, 22 of Manchester, KY lead all qualifiers with 3-under par 69. McDaniel, a junior at the University of Kentucky round included five birdies and offset with two bogies.
Rob Crocket, 39 of Louisville finished second with a 2 under par 70. Nine players were tied with 71 and played in a playoff for the other four qualifying positions. Qualifying on the first hole of the playoff were Nick Lykins, Matt Liston, and Austin Greaser with birdies. Brendon Doyle birdied the fourth playoff hole to earn the final qualifying place. Dustin Hicks earn the first alternate spot and Jacob Eklund earned the second alternate
A total of 8,879 players entered this years U.S. Open. 525 players will qualify for Sections and then the field will be narrowed down to 156 players. The U.S. Open will be played on June 15-18 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin.
